theory: socialization is the main reason people go to bitcoin events. I have never heard a person say “I came to hear ____ speak.” They came to hang out. Brick and mortar bitcoin spaces and to a lesser extent meetups, have satisfied urban the need to socialize. Conferences have tragically failed at shifting with the market. No one cares about speakers. (unless they’re shitcoiners - then they care.) If it’s not simple, fun in a special way and filled with great bitcoiners - less and less people will come.
Talks are usually recorded, so I can watch those later. I go to conferences to meet new people and see old friends. 🤝 nostr:nevent1qqs9wwyvnuqvpyu82y9g2pm3p2qedpm5kfh4fc3vy5t97zs0qhhh06gpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhsygxvn9mdjecgw2wgjqnuzymngquelag37lr5z43mgjjmrld8hwzs3vpsgqqqqqqsvmcp0a
I also enjoy when there are meats involved… ;)
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that a beefsteak is a Bitcoin event.
I would argue that Beefsteak is the *only* Bitcoin event…
idk man - @benthecarman is pretty good at tag.
I’ve seen several conferences do away with speakers entirely and just go full-on party, which is just fine in my book.
