 There is some truth to what he says. I've hear it said this way by another historian:

"The job of a historian is actually to be a bit of a revisionist, otherwise there's be no reason to pay us."

The problem is that this means that professional historians actually become a weird mix of propagandist, provocateurs, and contrarians.
