 Try Kubuntu for M1 mac. Any reason why you're doing that instead of buying a cheap used laptop? OS X is very nice

 The music world is very tied to Apple and I don't really like that. My long term goal has been to switch to Linux. However, I broke the screen on my laptop, which whilst repairable, is also expensive, so I bought the same model again second hand.

Now I'm keeping the old one as a dedicated music machine, it works fine when plugged into a monitor, essentially it's now a Mac Mini.

This machine I'm on now is dual boot, so I'm on Mac OS if I'm using it for a live show but I have the option of learning Linux and testing things out too. Maybe it's a stupid thing to do but I want to have at least some protection from the killer robots with lasers.

 Oh I see. Dual boot will let you play with Linux. You can run Windows music software using WINE. It's gonna be kinda crappy. 

Killer robots will run Linux because most neural net stuff is meant to run on Ubuntu. If you wanna learn how to deploy a server, Linux is great. For anything else it sucks.

 Yeah this is very much an educational project. Until 2020 I had very basic computer understanding, I knew my music apps very well but fuck all else.

 Well, that's still advanced usage. These days I use computers to download and play media. I could code a few things for nostr, but can't be bothered unless the faggots share some of Jack's money.
