i'm at the other end of the spectrum. the speaker was torpedoed by the lunatic fringe for not being crazy, destructive, and disruptive enough. the two most likely replacements are definitely even more crazy and destructive than mccarthy but the GOP won't ever unite behind anyone that isn't; too much of their caucus are also wingnuts.
it boggles my mind that we got here and that so many folks still don't see the GOP for what they are and what they are trying to do. yes, they own the press and shape the story but who, with any brains, is buying what the mainstream press sells these days? it's not like the lies are terribly clever or plausible.
@e719afd4 Which a big reason why the responses to my assessment of the McCarthy situation surprised me. Like, did people not see Gaetz immediately call for his removal after cutting the budget deal? What...why would a member of his own party do that if not because he wasn't extremely enough for the MAGAts?
@2a70c54d
indeed. subtle is not one of their traits. they're pretty much saying all of it out loud these days.
@e719afd4 Thats why the GOP has been able to entrench so many anti-American politicians. We, Americans, largely lack critical thinking skills
@2a70c54d
yup. GOP has been trying to gut public education and college education so there are less folks with critical thinking skills, knowledge of history/civics/economics. makes lying to them easier.
