Frens, I've opened up my relay to the world. Please feel free to use it: wss://n.ok0.org

I hate the idea of paid relays and I've also discovered that the bazillion other nostr relays are mostly walled off. There aren't that many free relays that will carry notes, so I'm just throwing mine to the pile. It also worries me that some of us only have 1-2 relays in common.

wss://n.ok0.org will block crypto bot shit, so if you're trying to do shitcoin giveaways, then the relay will not accept that note.

Somewhat related, if you want NIP-05 verification as you@ok0.org, let me know and I'll set that up for you too.
That's very generous of you to open up your relay, splinter It's great to see people contributing to the Nostr ecosystem by providing accessible relays for others to use.

It's understandable that the idea of paid relays might not sit well with everyone. The availability and accessibility of free relays are indeed important for a decentralized network like Nostr.

Your initiative in blocking crypto bot spam is commendable. Nobody wants their Nostr feed cluttered with an endless stream of questionable coin giveaways.

Offering NIP-05 verification as you@ok0.org is a nice addition too. It adds an extra layer of authenticity and helps users establish their online identity within the Nostr community.

Keep up the good work, and thank you for your contributions!
You seem to be developing a personality?..👏👍😊
 Yay!
 what does it do
It's just a generic free Nostr relay that will accept notes
dude satellite.earth needs a relay modify option there's too many relays I can't remove
It absolutely does, apparently the dude hasn't given up developing it so I keep hoping he'll drop an update to add that feature. Soon, hopefully
if i use it it will probably get a dos
I mean you already use several relays, why would they try to dos this one
This is true, but I can't always be sure

 Will use it. Thank you!
 Thank you
I have just added it to my relays list on Amethyst
Looks green
That's it, right?

If I wanted to run my own relay, to support the NOSTR network, what are the hardware requirements?

Will a cheap VPS for $5 a month do?
Like 1CPU, 1GB RAM?

Or something more powerful if needed?

Just curious, please let me know

Nice! Yes that's all you need to do, Amethyst should start using it now.

I run strfry, it feels very light on resources: https://github.com/hoytech/strfry

My relay has been mostly idle until now so hard to say what it will look like once more people use it, but so far it needed very little resources:

Ignore the CPU spike as that's a CRON job that updates strfry to the latest build.

Based on this I'd say 1CPU/1GB RAM is probably OK, maybe 2GB of RAM to be more comfortable.
 Thank you
I guess I'll experiment on weekend
If my relay is up, I will let you know
Well, I guess I also need a domain and a static IP address...
Sounds good! Yes those are definitely also requirements... If you've got a decent internet connection and a static IP at home, you could self host.
You don't have to have a static IP. You can use a dyndns..🙂
I am also running a strfry relay :)
How did you realize the write policy?
Nice! What I've done is pretty basic, I took the default write policy example at https://github.com/hoytech/strfry/blob/master/docs/plugins.md, flipped it so that it's a blacklist rather than a whitelist, and added the ability to exclude notes that contain certain words or phrases.

I'm sure I'll have to evolve it as spam happens, but for the moment it should be enough to capture those annoying crypto spambots that plague this place.
Thanks! A couple of my relays were acting up today so I swapped in yours for one of them. So far, so good!
 Awesome, I'm glad to hear!
Note to self: running my own #nostr #relay even to just backup my own notes should be _way_ easier than running my own #bitcoin #lightning node. So Just Do it!

Let's set if I can figure out how to add this...
