 Its mostly desert isn't it? Though I think the part that irks me is 'mostly'. The tropical rainforest parts in the north are fine as a nature preserve, now they can't do anything with it, but I always wondered why the Mediterranean climate west coast had no major cities.

Now I know.

 Looking into it there's Perth, which I have heard of but didn't realize was over there. Bunch of smaller towns which I approve of, low population density is a good thing. But that still means these little pockets of civilization are surrounded by the dumbest race of human on the planet.

In the same climate type as California, Spain, Italy, etc. I am really unamused by that.
