I don't think Nostr is for you. It's about public in the first place - even default DMs, reactions, other interactions with npubs and views are public. npub is about public, why you trying to make it private with someone else's relays?
Sometimes, you want to share information publicly, like a journalist, making it permanently accessible to everyone globally. Other times, you might have content intended for a specific community or limited audience for a defined period.
The core idea is to give users control over their public data. This means the ability to edit or delete posts if they've made a mistake or regret sharing something. It's about having the power to manage your information and ensure your privacy. For instance, you might want to share something with a small group for a limited time and then remove it later.
Furthermore, clients, like the @hzrd149 Nostrudel client, should ask the user which relay they want to publish the data on and not have hidden connections to other relays behind it. This empowers users with greater control over how their information is disseminated and ensures their security and privacy.
Your own relay might help. Your own client should help.
I ran my personal relay, but the clients still leaked data and broadcast through other relays. When I completely removed the default relays from the client and replaced them with my own relay, the client should no longer have a connection with the default relays. Now, I'm not sure if this is a bug or if the clients are still secretly attempting to establish connections in the background.
Own client+own relay will help I think. By the way, NIP-05 has the option of specifying priority relays. Don't know if it help or not... https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/blob/master/05.md
