Something I’ve noticed about communities in Nostr is that stuff posted to them also shows up outside the community just in my general feed. 
On the other hand, the audio and chat in rooms in Nests and Cornychat are restricted to their respective rooms. 
Is it not possible to make notes posted to communities similarly private?

 That's the clients' choice, what to show where. some don't show the communities notes in the feed.

 They are building private communities based upon private relays. So, you'd have to get white-listed, to use them.

They're still thinking through the design.
