The current (and necessarily ongoing conversation) about nostr’s killer app doesn’t seem to have touched on video—at least not that I’ve seen. Yes, it’s only a media type, but video is undeniably king. As much as I have no use for it, personally, who’s building the TikTok of nostr?
i’m a big believer in video on nostr. i ask questions like this all the time. though i’m not sure if/how swipe/consumption data would work in a tiktok-like algo driven video client. new “kind” stored on relays? does it leak too much privacy? should the consumption data be encrypted and only accessible to apps as authorized by the user? it’s a bit tricky since what makes tiktok work well is a close orchestration of client and data.
I’m glad to hear the tough questions are being asked. No doubt the nature presents serious hurdles. Conversely, the “TikTok problem” seems like an excellent litmus test for nostr’s long-term viability. As always, I’m bullish, but, ultimately, the people want what the people want.
My artwork is primarily video so it’s being able to post that format is vital to my practice. I know Drakula is the tik tok equivalent for the Farcaster protocol and has gained much deserved steam the past month rewarding their creators weekly crypto bounties in $degen (on base). Interested to learn what the Nostr equivalent is over here.
