The argument could certainly be made but I still think at least some value comes from the additional content coming over the bridge. I don't know what harms nostr more, severely broken threads with fedi; or the overwhelming domination of one specific subject on nostr that would only be worse without fedi.
with all fedi flagship instances shadowbans nostr/mostrpub, i think we just have to live with the fact that fedi and nostr should just be separated, let them be with their rules and their little dictators over there, and we post anything we like here
Can you blame theme? The names look like shit on their side lol
I don't think that's a big deal, I think it's mostly because they are (somewhat rightfully) extremely unhappy that Alex abandoned rebased. The problems with csam, spam and of course the names etc have been around for a long time.
Graf said to me on here that it was just because of CSAM. The voters voted to boot nostr
I think the only reason it's been allowed for this long is bc Gleason used to be somewhat active in the community and had clout with Fedi admins. He doesn't really do that anymore, he keeps to himself except in his private dev channels. He also made big promises with NOSTR that he hasn't kept. I think we're approaching 2 years since he started working on it and Ditto still barely works. It's not Revolver levels of not_happening but it's getting there.
Ironically revolver may actually launch in the next ~1 month.
I wish Pete was sane enough to actually discuss the architecture without devolving into schizophrenia. I don't even understand what it is. It'll be interesting if he can solve the problem but I doubt he will (he's more likely to be the one writing spam bots in the first place)
Even though Graf is lying about pedophiles being here (he does that every time he wants to block something) he's not even wrong about the problem. Even if Gleason's model for Ditto works perfectly, someone will always be able to instantly generate 1000 keypairs apart from Ditto and start spamming any instance they want and there's literally nothing you can do except regex or broad filters or manual moderation, and that's only a bandaid. At best you can train a model to catch probable spam, but big companies already do that and they're always flooded with smarter spam every few months.
There are unironic paedophiles on nostr. I'm not saying it's as big a problem as the spam but they're definitely here, along with people who may just be posting csam to be edgelords or to hurt the protocol.
I've only ever seen one and he moved here from Pleroma.
