We really didn't have to solve this problem right now. We really would have been fine to solve it later. It's like when your teacher punishes you and then says "that's what the real world is like, get used to it". Maybe you didn't experience that.
Spam is going to be a big issue on nostr. Would you rather have to deal with it when people other than early adopters are trying to use Nostr and giving up due to the volume of spam? Abuse of the network is probably going to be the biggest challenge for public relays imo. It wasn't a particularly sophisticated attack, and pretty annoying, it could have also been run privately. However, it's definitely raised the issue of just how sensitive the protocol is to spammers.
As I see this is still going on hours later … Information wars have always existed. It’s odd AF that devs seem so staunch on continuing to justify their lack of preparation for what was obviously going to happen. People who think long-game disagree with you. It’s obvious. Accept it as a learning lesson or don’t. It’s simple, not easy.
