I’m not arguing that social media isn’t a negative influence, but BANNING it is extreme. There are far better ways to deal with too much usage and we don’t need to get hysterical about it.
Doubt the ban is the goal To ensure ban seems like we might need so to some kyc twittah. (Cynical thought)
That’s probably the actual goal. It’s not for your kids, but to KYC every single social media user so people censor themselves.
This also makes selective enforcement possible. Since obviously everyone will ignore that law anyway, they can go after social media companies they don't like (X) and turn a blind eye to the rest.
any obvious alternatives that you'd propose?
It’s a question for parents who have kids of that age. I suspect having many conversations is important. Some monitoring initially and parental controls. But as kids get a bit older they can get around all of that stuff and the only thing that’s likely to matter is having honest conversations- which requires a good relationship with the kid or they’ll just ignore you.
It amazes me when I see people asking for governments to ban social media or phones for kids rather than just parenting.
