When I post to community, it goes into my feed (if I remember correctly) and that makes no sense to me. I join a community to post in that space, not for my notes to automatically go to all of my followers.
Example: if I want to talk about some nerdy hobby I don’t want others to have to tolerate or maybe I don’t want to share that it’s my hobby, it makes no sense for those interactions to automatically go into my social timeline.
As for management, I cannot approve every comment manually, that’s too insane. Comments should be able to be moderated but there needs to be a community wide option to let anyone post. Perhaps posts are filtered for wot score below some threshold or go into a mod queue
Example:
Wot < 10 = mod queue
Wot > 10 allow notes
I also need to be able to assign other mods so people don’t have to wait on me to approve their comment. If I’m asleep for 8 hours that’s a crazy long time to wait
Good point, we need a NIP for something like a moderation group/community. But for Nostr, it’s not easy to implement as far as i know.
I see. Well, hopefully someone figures that out. Until then communities sort of suck. I’ve ran a community in the past and you need the mod tools to make them work. Otherwise it’s just waiting for abuse.
Feels like the community management would align well with relay selection capabilities
Saw some talk of communities today. As someone who tried to start one and quickly gave up for technical reasons, here's the note that could be helpful to anyone working on communities:

Its funny that everyone that has tried to use communities since last year comes to the similar conclusions around the user friction.
NIP 72 needs clarification that ANY kind can be a post into a community, and not necessarily kind 1 which is basically general notes.
It would be ideal if a specific kind was assigned for textual community posts, or if clients were more opinionated about kind 1 notes to retrieve and display. The former is easier as rules around a tags vary too much.
If i were building a community client, id just pick a number and document it. probably 4549 to pair with the 4550 approvals.
Yeah if that and moderation was fixed we’d be in a much better place
