What does Elsevier replacement look like on nostr?
Depends on what you mean, a second sci-hub where relays are cloning existing articles? Might need a bit of ground work to get that to happen and make existing structures irrelevant.

Are we creating new scientific articles? Well, then we should also figure out how to leverage not just the decentralized aspects of nostr but its composability and interoperability that Nostr affords.

Both are separate tasks but can absolutely live together. I'm working on the second task. A v0.0 is done but needs a lot of work on design plus other basic functionality (commenting, zaps etc). Right now I have uploading notes via nodeJS and displaying linked notes as full articles, but to be usable the uploading of articles should also happen from the client. There's a philosophy behind the client's functional design, but thats beyond this comment's response.

I'm a noob web developer, so client development has paused for the time being. Currently working/planning a DVM to help assist in understanding content (imagine being able to teach/break down academic articles to whatever level the user needs)

Micro publications on nostr might be an effective route. Get rid of articled being first and foremost PDFs, stupid cursed format needs to go 😠
I don't think It will disappear

The horse buggy might also have not disappeared, but that doesn't mean that better transportation hasn't overtaken them. My point being that we should try to leverage new formats and structures for conveying information. Also, PDF's are pretty bad for anything other than print. Imagine linking a DVM to analyze the text of papers, but this one (http://bayes.cs.ucla.edu/BOOK-2K/ch1-3.pdf) ends up being in your pile. Try copying and pasting the text in there, which a script would try and scrape from the file.
It was like with DVM you lose social graph (hodlbod quote) and with PDF lose the structure, compound 🤨
