So … validating user metadata at the relay level is your thing. I agree that ALL tools should be used to deter bots and bad actors, and that these filters should prolly be implemented on the server side for best performance. But you’re saying that validating against follows follows is lazy and wrong? It’s just another tool… what am I missing?
It's not addressing the problem. It's a bandaid. The problem needs to be solved at the relay level. They are essentially slowly getting ddosed with spam that will fill up their database and waste network resources. Sure with wot, your little follower safe space seems cool but what's happening underneath is slowly destroying the relays you love.
