I've never once watched a super bowl for the sport. I generally hate football. I always watched for the commercials. Even today, I don't care about the game. I look forward to hanging out with family, friends, eating, drinking, having a party, and seeing what hilarious or crazy commercials are released.
so it's actually a marketing frenzy over a football event
It's a marketing frenzy because it's the most watched football event of the year. Or any TV show for that matter.
oh i meant that in a good way
but i could never enjoy the sports played like that
There’s maybe 20 minutes of actual football. It’s a marketing skeet show 😂

daughter just came down 2 mins ago and asked me to totally legally obtain a movie for her.
"dad could you torrent it?" sounds cuter tho
she doesn't know that word, it's just dad can you please get me xyz
i haven't had cable tv in 14 years :)
TV went wireless before it was cool 😂
Don’t need cable to watch the Super Bowl. We just use Hulu streaming.
The Super Bowl is by far the highest advertisement cost $/second of any event each year. Companies spend insane amounts of money producing and running these ads, often new products are announced, etc.
It is stupid, but it’s not unusual for Americans to particularly care about ads on this one day per year.
giving me idiocracy vibes
It just is what it is. IMO it’s much less stupid than watching brain numbing sitcoms like “Big Bang Theory” or “Modern Family” every day.
As Derek noted, it’s usually just an excuse to have a big party with family & friends.
(re: the commercials part)
no. commercials are the best part of the super bowl. always have been.
Not anymore. All they do is take a celebrity who was famous 30 years ago and stick him in a commercial and it’s the peak of hilarity for some reason. Irony has ruined humor
This is also me. Working in advertising agencies for years, we mostly just talked about the commercials.
