Viewers buy “coins” and then use those coins to send “gifts” that are worth different amounts and ultimately converted to funds in the streamer’s account. TikTok takes a percent.

I was imagining a live stream on nostr with 19k viewers and people zapping the broadcast throughout. Wild to think about. People love supporting good content, especially when it’s something or someone they feel a connection to. It’ll take time. We need more adoption, and easier payment onboarding, but I believe it will get there, and since nostr and bitcoin cut middlemen out of the picture, that value goes directly to support whoever is being zapped, even multiple people if zap splits become more commonplace.

In this case it was Howie the Crab, who I just learned about, but apparently has millions of followers on social media. According to Google “Howie can communicate using sign language, walk on a leash, give high fives, and eat human food like caviar. She also enjoys wearing hats, going on neighborhood walks, and riding an electric scooter.” His owner shares videos about him, and his fans are quite invested in his activities lol. tonight’s live stream was of him molting.

"easier payment onboarding" Are you referring to converting fiat to ₿? My sense is that the status quo is going to make it harder and harder over time to convert fiat to ₿.
Whether it’s converting fiat to bitcoin or just simply getting a LN wallet setup to zap, it’s not straightforward unless you already know what you’re doing and already have some sats. Primal is currently the easiest with the built in wallet, but also their wallet is not available everywhere. And since most people in the world don’t already have bitcoin, they for sure don’t have any of it to spend on tips. Everyone has fiat though, so making it easier to bridge between fiat and bitcoin via zaps would be huge.
I was going to mention Primal, and as I went to the screen to try to convert fiat to ₿, it states, "primal store sats are not available at this time."
