 @c59c8878 @owl. Having the age of consent overlap with the period of time that a person is fully dependent on their parents opens the child up for quite a few abuses. In particular, the parents may force their child into prostitution at such an age. Naturally, because the dependent is fully dependent, they will have no real say in the matter - the parents will simply argue that the dependent child is having consensual sex even if they are obviously not, and the child will be forced into agreeing for the sake of having a meal.

There are sufficiently many abhorrent parents that this will absolutely happen - in large numbers - if we lower the age of consent. In order to prevent this, the age of consent cannot be too low. This is for the protection of the child in question, they need to be able to escape abusive parenting scenarios as safely as possible.

That only happens under a culture in which men court girls without having to ask for the father's permission. If you normalize proper courtship, then all the extra abuse nonsense goes away.
Parents will force children into prostitution regardless of whether child brides are allowed or not. If anything, they already support the degeneracy of OnlyFans. Finally, you are implying both the father and the mother are evil enough to support prostituting their kid. If that's the case, then even without child brides, the kid is already screwed over tbh.
Finally, marriages require a judge, so no casual sex. If a little girl is being raped by a bunch of men, then it would require tremendous secrecy and a absolutely immoral community.

We live in a society where such happens quite often. Many of our children *are* figuratively screwed. That does not mean we should allow them to get *literally* screwed.

Most of the West meet both of those conditions.
