Benefits of raising ducks on a regenerative farm:
1. Pest control
Ducks are natural foragers and will control population levels of slugs, snails and insects
Pest patrol > pesticide
🦆
2. Soil fertility
Duck droppings are rich in nutrients, especially nitrogen. This enhances soil fertility and promotes healthier crops
Duck poop > synthetic fertilizer
🦆
3. Weed management
Ducks graze on young weeds and help provide natural weed control which reduces competition for crops
Weed patrol > herbicide
🦆
4. Biodiversity enhancement
Integrating ducks into a farm increases biodiversity which helps create more resilient pond ecosystems
🦆
5. Meat and egg production
Ducks offer a sustainable source of meat and eggs which nourish our family and generate income for the farm
🦆
6. Aesthetic value
Ducks add charm and beauty to a farm and offer opportunities for unique farm education and visitor experiences
🦆
Overall, ducks support ecological health and enhance productivity and resilience of the land

I’ve got a few pecking ducks and pilgrim geese! Love them 😊
Got any breed favorites?
I'd be interested in any breed that doesn't require much in the way of inputs and can be mostly independent.
Indian runners are a hardy and widely considered to be low maintenance. They adapt well and are excellent foragers which reduces inputs needed (so long as you have a healthy biodiverse farm with lots to forage on). Less prone to health issues and good without much supervision. Good layers if you want eggs 👍🏽
As soon as our pond is finished we'll be getting ducks for sure!
what about security? how do you protect the ducks and eggs from predators?
Will be a challenge to face as the flock expands. Small fences allow us to rotate the ducks through forest zones and duck shacks offer the ducks and eggs protection at night. We also have a big dog named Deus who wanders
Will post predator encounters and how we solved them to nostr as they come up
what kind of dog is our boy Deus
reading some of your posts... you are real and very interesting. do you have a website? I don't see a link on the nostr profile
