I know that Alex is striving to solve this problem, but there's a really long way ahead. Also there's "nomadic identity" feature in ActivityPub, which is being actively developed. So who knows... I think it's too early for laughs.
I had not heard about the nomadic identity development until today. If fully implemented, that would be a big step forward for the Mastodon folks. Alas, it still doesn't give seamless movement from one client to another like Nostr, but it's still a move in the right direction. The questions are, how long will it take to develop and how many server hosts will fully implement it?
