Ha ha ha, I'm not all together sure of his political persuasion but he's wrong in the idea of what a libertarian is, in the old school meaning.
what do you mean by old school meaning?
A libertarian is one who does what ever the fuck one wants, as long as it doesn't impinge on the freedom of others.
curious, what is the new school meaning of libertarian?

not sure he made the distinction. not sure there is a distinction but as you made the distinction i thought to ask?
Ok. Mike actually introduced the term Liberal into the debate, which I never did. Libertarian is a rather archaic term which has rather fallen out of favour of late, I don't suppose there has been much difference in it's meaning from then as now but I suppose "An-Cap" would be it's equivalent in modern parlance🤷🏻♂️. That's on an economic level but also on a socio-level as it doesn't have an equivalent. A libertarian is a libertarian, not a liberal.
ive always been told im an old soul but im a new libertarian in the scheme of things. for example i like much of what erik voorhees has to offer in some cases the new school or new version of a thing is indeed worse - like music, the big mac, and coca cola. but in other cases the comparison is made by folks with more grey to put down those around them. i dont think you meant this but adding the old school identifier in the context of your message implied as much. i cant speak to what mike said about the history of the liberal label but i dont see there being a difference in old vs new school
I'm an old soul too Squire, the Libetarian/Liberal thing is a bit of a misnomer, though they are loosely related. I'll leave it there but it's been an interesting debate amongst all 3. That's what I like about #Nostr, there are very few, if any "Dick-Heads" and a good debate is generally to be had. Have a great day, the two of you. Namastè.
Well now you are qualifying it with "as long as it doesn't impinge on the freedom of others." That's pretty close to my understanding if you do that. But your previous definition included Bibi Netanyahu, Charles Manson, and the like.
If we are talking about Etymology, then sure it originally meant convicts escaping from prison. Then it was used by communists in support of anarchism. In the USA where I grew up, from long before me (1880s) it is a term that means essentially what "classical liberal" means in England. Because in the US the term "liberal" became synonymous with the political left, so it being widely misunderstood, the old term libertarian was redefined in it's place.
I'm English and you're not American, I also don't mean the "Modern Liberal Left", I mean, as you say. The prison breakers and anarchists. By your prior definition, prison breakers and anarchists, do what the fuck they want. Liberals. Good day Ser🫡.
