#WritersCoffeeClub 10/5 What are your writing project goals?

In concrete terms, the WIP I'm working on is part of a series, the first book of which is already done and published. So it needs to get done and ready to go to my editor next month.

In less concrete/more long-term terms...I don't know. Happiness? People reading my stories? Something.
Spotted at my gym. No idea what it is. (I'm zone 5a, for reference.) #bloomscrolling

@d73175df My hope is that we get to explore a little of her past through the series.
#WordWeavers 10/2 Who is your most intriguing character? Why?

I think it's probably Ulysses's grandmother, Ekaterina (called Babushka by her grandchildren). Everyone loves a witchy old woman with a shadowy past. Or I do, anyway.

My current WIP is book 2 in the series of urban fantasy/queer historical romances I've been working on. It follows Sam and Ulysses through problems including the reappearance of U's ex-girlfriend, plant zombies, finishing a PhD, community theater, and figuring out how to have a relationship when one of you is an ex-god.

If you enjoy this stuff, or just want to support my weirdness, you can pick up the first book here to prepare: https://books2read.com/u/49dN1p
It was fun to read from Dionysus in Wisconsin this afternoon at #RSM4. I've been very plugged into work on the sequel this week, and it feels weird to see Sam and Ulysses back at the beginning of their journey. I guess it's cool that I can see how much they've changed, though!

The vegetarian jokes neve...
@a3976b27 they do not, although in the last ten years people no longer seem weirded out or insulted to find out I'm vegetarian. More often I hear, "Oh, I was vegetarian for a year in college but I just missed meat too much." Ok? Good for you/I'm sorry? I don't know what they want from me in that case.
#WritersCoffeeClub 9/30 What dumb things do people say when you tell them you're a writer?

For the first 15 years I was a vegetarian, when anyone found out, they'd say, "Where do you get your protein?" There is no equivalent response for being a writer. Most people are nice and ask what I write.

More annoying are people who spontaneously lie about having bought my book? Like you could just not do that? I do not understand that at all. There's literally zero clout I can award them. Tant pis.
#WritersCoffeeClub 9/26 Have you ever used a MacGuffin in your writing?

Yes. It's delightful, the way dangling a feather in front of a cat is delightful: once the characters catch it, you both sit there going "now what?"
Am I the only girl child who did NOT like Nancy Drew?

@433fb3d4 I just never read it.
For those interested in the squirrel skull discourse: when 6yo and I called my mom last night (we were driving home from aikido), she immediately suggested 6yo could bring the skull to school for show and tell.
