Speechify is quite good. Nice for listening to blog posts while you’re walking https://v.nostr.build/siuEFnRgO99Q8QiZ.mp4
It also shows how long it is! 1 hour blogpost. Perfect for my 1 hr walks. So cool.
I’m using this from my iphone, apple logins are slick.
Ah weird. Maybe optimized for ios
Looks like the Apple gods still need to bestow me with their approval before the correct version ...
Make sure you only update the build number otherwise it will force a testflight review
 🍿
💯 follow back is becoming very difficult on #nostr at the moment with all the fake accounts. O...
This is why showing new followers is a bad idea imo
typst is a simpler alternative to latex and has a simple markdown-like grammar. I propose we use this in some nostr science longform spec. It’s super fast too!

https://cdn.jb55.com/s/typst.mp4

https://typst.app/docs/reference/syntax/
this is specifically for papers. markdown or asciidoc doesn’t provide any tools for equations, etc. they just rely on latex which is a can of worms. Its nice to have a simpler canonical format for that
not needing to download gigabytes of latex packages is nice
 That sounds awesome
What would be a good name for a rideshare nostr client? #asknostr

code is:

    v.mkString(state.settings.restrictEval || state.settings.pureEval ? "" : getEnv(name).value_or(""));

 ohhh
I get a lot of interactions on here, which seems to be killing my battery via push notifications.

Going to only turn on #onlyzap notifications. Using #bitcoin to save battery 😅.

Your Attention doesn’t have to be free, especially when it’s pushed to your phone.

we just need a minimum zap amount on our push notification server now... https://github.com/damus-io/notepush/issues/9

gm nostr 🌞 https://i.nostr.build/BOgnZN501TH9sMAD.jpg
just need to make zap commenting more first class somehow, instead of an afterthought on a custom zap.
 definitely. we should re-add this
 yup
 New nostr client idea:

Only show the text of the notes in the feed, no pictures, no usernames.

...
notedeck actually has this mode, its fun
yeah i liked sabine initially but she cares more about creating baity youtube videos than actual science
As performance optimization enjoyer i can’t help but look at the transformer architecture in LLMs and notice how incredibly inefficient they are, specifically the attention mechanism.

Looks like i am not the only one who has noticed this and it seems like people are working on it.

https://arxiv.org/pdf/2406.15786

Lots of ai researchers are not performance engineers and it shows. I suspect we can reach similar results with much less computational complexity. This will be good news if you want to run these things on your phone. https://i.nostr.build/LFm0CEhOtaSXV5rq.jpg
yeah llama.cpp is great, i should look at what they’re doing.
These are neat, but feels like its optimizing a problem that shouldn’t exist. The paper I linked dropped half of the attention layers without any noticeable impact on performance. Architecture changes like that could have a much larger impact. Wish i had time to tinker with this stuff …
 Attention requires time + energy.
Also true in LLMs as the most computationally expensive part of its runtime 😆 https://i.nostr.build/QiXjCWIOWwsAOkYZ.jpg
Hola este es mi primer post en Damus, espero encontrar buena gente. Saludos

#introductions
 Welcome!
damus relay may be due for another nukening (ie im too lazy to migrate the data to a new strfry version)
let me have a few whiskeys first
 yup!
still mind blowing to me that my lightning node sends me cryptographically verifiable receipts of cytographically verifiable transfers on a decentralized L2 network of computers that are on top of a cryptographically verifiable ledger built on exahashes of proof of work.

wtf is even happening
 knowledge
i do this all the time in Vancouver
definitely. we’ll need something different, and a different internet as well.

keeping your bitcoin node in sync would be annoying. ecash actually might make the most sense?
 Day 295 of #100pushups challenge complete 🤙

 50 in a row ?
Even better, make Nostr a place Grant naturally joins.
nostr:nevent1qqswr2gnrttrdmzqj5f702fp4mmw4...
time to add latex support to damus xD
3blue1brown may be the greatest educator that has ever existed. I've learned more from his channel than I have during my entire ~20 years in school.
 crazy
currently going through his neural network playlist. its quite good.
great for learning about seemingly complex math ideas. His fourier transform one was so good
Just discovered this. poor mans highlights: if you paste a text fragment link, ios link previews will make a highlight for it. To make one just add:

#:~:text=<text in body>

At the end of a web url. Nice for linking to parts of web pages that don’t have anchor links. This works anywhere in ios that uses link previews (mail, messages, reminders, etc)

https://nips.nostr.com/22#:~:text=A%20comment%20on%20a%20website's%20url%20looks%20like%20this

#nerdprotip https://i.nostr.build/U5RDTn8yukNzNFmB.jpg
anyone using nip22 to comment on websites? any client for this?
yeah was thinking specifically for website comments though
 👀
Integrating stripe payments and Apple Pay into a webapp is so much harder than working with bitco...
yeah integrating lightning into damus purple was wayyy easier than apple pay. especially with lnsocket/lnmessage to talk to a node directly over {web,}sockets
Why are all the leftists ditching Twitter for Blue sky not moving to Nostr instead? Is it because...
the left depends on censoring their opponents to make their worldview consistent and to keep their sanity
I don’t really understand this kind of criticism (and not to pick on Will here, it seems to be ...
 thoughts @Alex Gleason 🐍 ?
ironic. aren't you the master of stone throwing?
I don't even see how decentralization is possible at this point just by looking at their architecture. it's completely controlled centrally. I don't see how they are going to magically decentralize it to any useful degree.
 matts post is pure hopium
that architecture diagram looks insane. who is going to run all that?
 > mocking other projects that have been way more successful is wrong

that's where we disagree. I will happily mock bad designs. should I give praise to facebook because of their excellent marketing? what? no, I will criticize nonsense and bs marketing, especially when the project is decentralized in name only.
I think its naive to buy into a solution or product based on future promises
my only point was that users counts are inherently a centralized concept, and I simply found it ironic. most nostriches understand this well.
 Its completely false
nostr needs maybe a couple thousand dollars a month to keep the lights on. Clients already exist and running relays is insanely cheap. Damus will keep working even money runs out. You can’t say the same about bluesky
one thing I think about is how the centralization of their funding might have affected their design. their architecture looks like what happens when you have teams that divide themselves into micro-services.
there were plenty of clients before jack arrived, even damus. nostr worked fine. this idea that nostr needs 1m per month to survive is extremely misleading and simply wrong.
I feel like you spend more time complaining about nostr than contributing anything of value. What are you doing to improve these weaknesses? Some of us are very much aware of these issues and are grinding away to improve them.

The governance issue is so dumb, there is no governance. Theres a few devs who have control of the nips repo. Guess what! You can ignore the nips repo, i left it a long time ago and have started to spec things on our own. People who find our specs useful can implement them (image metadata, private zaps, quote highlights). All rejected from the nips repo but *gasp* they still exist and people implement them.

Not sure why i waste my time with complainers, but i am going to stop wasting my time now. ✌️
Censorship resonates with a large number of people! Great! We are building for everyone else.
at some point here, some dev will support the BSDs.
i just know it.
any day now.
 does notedeck work there ?
Hello, want to learning about true decentralized & open social network. So here I am!

#introduc...
 Welcome boss
pokey used 33% of my battery in a couple hours, may need to go back to just amethyst 😂
 nostr:nevent1qqstjq8t382stmd89tf0txfe0y7auxzm3mc3d6jdadew2a98rzqe23spzemhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuurjd9kkzmpwdejhgqgcwaen5te0d4hkucty9e4xydf49e3k7mf68qcrsvqpzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejsz9thwden5te0wfjkccte9ekk7um5wgh8qatzhtelt3 called it 😂
I’m tired of them talking about aliens. So they are underwater now. just fucking show us then. Let’s see some high res pictures, videos, and radar data.
 Interesting graphic!
“You don’t need proof of Santa, just an open mind”
 I think this guy is a troll…
Really? It’s because they aren’t showing us any solid evidence, just blurry videos and photos. Interest will come when there is 1080p+ quality video and high quality radar data to study.

Not to mention shit can be fabricated with ai now, which makes things even harder. It’s going to take a lot more high quality evidence before people start believing. Not just “trust me bro” anecdotal evidence.
Truly running #notedeck this am! 15 days to go! #guineapigtester #damus
hmm ok, I think we just need to make sure to try to fetch new contact lists... I don't think we're doing that yet which is bad
What’s everyone’s game of choice these days? #gamestr
94 mining… nice chill activity while learning things on youtube
