Realme Note 60x gets multiple certifications on its way to release

Realme is working on a new budget smartphone, as it turns out. It will have the model number RMX3938 and will be called Realme Note 60x (not to be confused with the Narzo 60x). This will be 4G-only, and it's recently been certified by the EU, FCC, and Thailand's NBTC.

Through these certifications its name was confirmed, as is the fact that it comes with a 5,000 mAh battery with support for 10W wired charging. The phone will run Android 14 out of the box with Realme UI on top.

Watch the Asus ROG Phone 9 launch live here

Today, the Asus ROG Phone 9 series arrives to shake up the state of gaming phones – it will set a screen refresh rate record, at least among phones that are widely available around the world. Asus already teased the new models at the Snapdragon Summit and revealed that they will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.

Deals: deals pit the Google Pixel 9 series against the Samsung Galaxy S24 series

Whether on purpose or by accident, Amazon Canada has pitted Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy phones against each other with discounts ranging from $200 to $300.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 is more compact than the Google Pixel 9 (6.2” vs. 6.3” displays, 70.6mm vs. 72mm wide) and is lighter too (167g vs. 198g). It does have a smaller battery, though (4,000mAh vs. 4,700mAh). The Galaxy also has an LTPO display. Note that both the Pixels and the Galaxys will receive software updates for 7 years since launch.

Google Pixel Tablet 2 to have a keyboard case

Google's Pixel Tablet is getting a bit long in the tooth, having launched last June with no successor yet. But fret not for Google is actually working on the Pixel Tablet 2, and according to a new rumor, that one will come with a keyboard case. It's unclear whether this will be bundled with the tablet or offered as a separate purchase.

The upcoming tablet will have newer and better cameras too, compared to the ones fitted to the original Pixel Tablet.

The Pixel Tablet 2 will also be powered by a newer SoC compared to the Tensor G2 in the original, which is nothing surprising of...

Xiaomi 15 Ultra's camera arrangement purportedly shown in leaked image

Xiaomi already launched the 15 and 15 Pro in the Chinese market, and the range-topping 15 Ultra is expected to arrive at some point early next year (let's not forget that the 14 Ultra made its debut in February).

Today a source on Weibo has shared what is purported to be an image showing the upcoming Xiaomi 15 Ultra's camera arrangement.

 Hands-on with Infinix's E-Color Shift 2.0 concept phone

Back in 2018, Dai Nippon Printing unveiled an e-ink dress that could create new designs on the fly. Last year, BMW showed off the i Vision Dee concept car, which similarly had color-changing e-ink panels. Wouldn't it be a shame to have such things if your phone couldn’t change its look to match them?

Infinix loves experimenting with technology like this. The Infinix Concept Phone 2021 had both a solid electrochromic film that could change colors and an electroluminescent film that could light up. Earlier this year we got hands-on time with another prototype device, which used E-Color Shift...

Weekly poll results: the small Xiaomi 15 beats the Xiaomi 15 Pro in the polls

Small phones – well, smaller phones – have ardent supporters and it is quite evident in last week’s poll. The Xiaomi 15 is not exactly tiny, but it is smaller than the majority of Androids, especially the high-end ones, which rarely dip below 6.7” displays.

The Xiaomi 15 had a very positive reception that can only improve with strong reviews. There was a sentiment that the phone is too expensive (indeed, it costs a bit more than the Xiaomi 14 last year), but the overall impression is a good one. Xiaomi 15’s chief rival may be the vivo X200 Pro mini, but we’re yet to see each company’s plan...

Apple iPhone 18 Pro's main camera to have variable aperture

Over the years, multiple Android OEMs have launched smartphones with variable aperture cameras, but we are yet to see that on an iPhone. A few months ago, The Information reported that at least one of the iPhone 17 models next year will sport a camera with variable aperture, and now, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims the iPhone 18 Pro will also have this camera feature.

That shouldn't be a surprise because the iPhone 17 lineup is getting a camera with variable aperture, and one would expect the models coming later to have it, too.

 Nothing Ear (open) review

Most wireless earbuds have one crucial flaw—they have a tough time staying in your ears. That’s especially annoying if you’re working out, running, or simply walking about. Enter the Nothing Ear (open), which adds clever hooks that go around your ear to secure the buds in place.

As their name suggests, these are Nothing’s first open-fit earbuds. They omit the in-ear silicone tips and instead place their 14.2mm drivers next to your ear canal. Nothing developed a new Sound Seal System with directional speakers to keep sound leakage at bay.

OnePlus 13 to be more expensive than the OnePlus 12

WhatsApp is changing how contacts work

Today, WhatsApp has announced an important overhaul of how it handles contacts. Up until this point, contacts in WhatsApp are the contacts on the phone it's installed on. That can be a problem for those who lose their phone and don't have backups of their contacts, for example. This can also be a headache for those who share a phone, as well as those who manage multiple accounts with separate contacts on one device.

Thankfully, though, WhatsApp has a solution: a built-in contact manager. This will let you save contacts in the app, and so you won't lose them if you switch phones.

Weekly poll results: the Xiaomi 14T and 14T Pro are great, but pricing is an issue in some regions

The Xiaomi 14T phones are hot stuff and they drew a lot of interest in last week’s poll. However, the pricing is proving to be an issue in some regions. Not all, some commenters are reporting that they managed to get great deals and are happy with their purchase.

Still, the results speak for themselves – the Xiaomi 14T Pro poll is nearly evenly split between people who like the phone and people who think that it is too expensive. We had more options in the poll and (as we suspected), some are just not fans of the HyperOS software. The hardware, however, had few detractors.

Weekly poll results: the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus struggles to justify its higher price

The Plus model is £50 more for a 12/256GB unit in the UK and ₹2,000 more in India for an 8/256GB unit. And that’s the difference if you look at MSRP, the regular 2a phone has been around for a while and gets discounted often enough, which makes the price gap even larger.

Canalys: Samsung shipped 53.5 million smartphones in Q2, Apple and Xiaomi are very close

Back in mid-July Canalys released its smartphone market share numbers for the second quarter (April to June). At that time, however, it didn't also publish the actual number of shipments per brand. This has thankfully been remedied today.

The HMD Skyline is still on pre-order in Germany, even though it has already launched in other European countries. But isn’t €550 too much for only 2 OS updates and 3 years of security patches, anyway?

Google is working on a TV Streamer set-top box

Google is working on a new Chromecast with Google TV device, and it looks drastically different from what we have seen so far.

According to 9to5Google, it would be called TV Streamer and would have a set-top box design rather than an oval dongle. The remote would also get slightly redesigned but will keep its oval form.

The Google TV Streamer looks like it will be similar in size to a Pixel Tablet Charging Speaker Dock but more slanted. It has two cables coming out of the back; likely, one is the HDMI, and the other is the power cord. It may or may not have some display or touch...
