One worrying trend I've noticed in my own life is the complete unwillingness of people I know to take on any added responsibility than they already have. Even aside from nocoiners, who I've pretty much given up on convincing, I recently had a friend who's been trading shitcoins and got out before the latest dump say he's gonna just switch to BTC for the first time and hold. After some simple questions such as what hardware wallet he was going to use he told me he's just going to buy the ETF. Has zero desire whatsoever to ever self custody. And this is somebody who was able to figure out trading shitcoins. Even trying to convince him his answer was that "maybe 10% of people will ever self-custody".
The education of what Bitcoin actually is has so far to go. I've accepted that it's going to be a long and difficult road, but the repeated refusal by people I know to even spend a few hours to understand the fundamentals of what Bitcoin actually is sends pessimistic shivers down my spine.
The orange pill is such a double edged sword mentally. Lifting the veil and having to examine what the real world impacts of hyperbitcoinization will be, both positive and negative, can be extremely taxing, and at times feels all consuming. With that said, I would never go back and change which pill I took.
Sharing my favorite photo of my homeboy to contribute to the growth of this wonderful community. There's beauty and majesty in all of us.

Hello Nostr.
I've never been a poster on any social media app, but I feel compelled to actually engage with this community to hopefully have some kind of influence on the growth of the protocol, no matter how infinitesimally small it may be. The success of Nostr will be driven by individuals rather than corporations and that reality creates a sense of obligation in me to contribute in any way I can.
There is a very clear fork in the road ahead that all of us who are using Nostr at this point can see, glaringly obvious to anyone who actually looks up to see the direction they're heading. Centralized control of everything from our social and traditional media to our money is destroying the hope and optimism of the world as a whole. Thankfully we have small glimmers of hope like Nostr and Bitcoin at this critical point in history, providing us opportunities to escape the darkness. Thank you to all those who have worked tirelessly to create and expand these lifelines.
Just wanted to introduce myself and acknowledge that I recognize the importance of this protocol. Even as a lifelong lurker I'm willing to contribute to the dialogue and do my part to.help Nostr succeed.

I think lottery is driven purely by people's dreams. The chance at getting a life you could never possibly achieve on your own is very powerful, powerful enough to override the math that it's almost impossible for you to be the lucky one.
Personally I believe sports betting is more about connecting yourself to the action and feeling the adrenaline rush and other physiological responses that come with it. Way more highs and lows and probably more addictive. Much more along the lines of slots.
I guess it's easy to see how people can get roped into either of them. Funny how governments permit and profit off both of them, yet are increasingly preventing people from buying Bitcoin because it's "too risky". 🙄
Is there a general consensus on whether this is purely profit driven behavior vs. an actual attack on Bitcoin itself? I see debate supporting both sides from people whose opinions I respect, but there is very clearly a real impact on the fundamental functioning of the network and no clear answers given.
Is the only possible options as a pleb to fight against it to not participate and just wait for the initial hype frenzy to die down?
