Isn’t there a middle school model Congress out there somewhere that we could just straight up swap out for the GOP majority in our House of Representatives? Maybe a group of dogs with neckties? Anything would be an improvement.
Making Jim Jordan Speaker would be the moment the January 6 insurrectionists finally formally took over the House of Representatives. (And Scalise would more or less do the same. As I said yesterday the choice right now is ebola vs. bubonic plague.)

14 stories on Times homepage right now ahead of the news the former president illegally revealed some of this country's most closely guarded nuclear weapons secrets. The top story? A report on strong job growth that spins it as bad news for the Fed. Do better.
Not only is Trump a threat to our national security but so to is any politician who supports the idea that Trump should once again hold high office or who dismisses what he has done this making future offenses more likely.
For sure this is the tip of the iceberg of this sort of thing. He didn't keep all those classified docs because his inner archivist demanded it. It was because he saw value in them...and the value came from sharing the information with people who shouldn't have it.

You may think the GOP food fight this week was an embarrassment to the institution and an affront to its history. And you'd be right. But it was also exactly what the MAGA mob has been seeking all along--the totally breakdown of our government. My latest.

If you combine the people you'd never hire with the people you'd never invite to your house with the people you'd never want your kids to meet with the people you'd cross the street to avoid with the people who should never hold public office you have the current GOP leadership.
While there’s a book out there peddling the notion that the proprietor of this site vacillates between being noble and nuts, all the evidence here suggests he alternates between being hopelessly incompetent and genuinely evil.
Strongly agree with this. It was an exceptional speech. It will someday be seen as an important legacy expression of what the Biden presidency...and the core political struggle of our era...was all about.

GOP tactics are the equivalent of leaving a burning bag of dog poop on someone's front steps and ringing the bell then running away. Not as dignified. But just as effective a way of advancing the urgent issues of the nation.

The fact that the judge ruled that Trump engaged in egregious fraud for years does not reflect well on the legions of prosecutors at the city, state and federal level that did nothing about it for all that time.
Today’s Republican Party is corrupt to its core. It will be known as the most corrupt political force in our history, one that time and again chose power over justice and failed its constituents at every turn.

The job to be done in 2024 is defeating the likely GOP candidate, Trump. A natural question for those seeking to save our democracy is what is the best ticket to do that. A very compelling case can be made that ticket is Biden-Harris. But more importantly, that is going to be the ticket. That is a certainty. So, we need to put that question behind us. Given the importance of the job to be done, the only thing Dems should be focused on now is how do we ensure Biden-Harris can win. That should be the one and only discussion and focus among Democrats and all who want to preserve our system of government. No other debate is constructive.
How can one justify this baseless effort to undermine the person who will be the Dem candidate and thus the only person who can stop Trump and his planned assault on our democracy? Whether intended to be pro Trump or not, that’s its consequence.

Look, I know there are plenty of journalists out there with more credibility than me. All of them, actually. But I feel obligated to observe that the Hunter Biden story is not, well, very important...by any metric...but especially when compared to all the other shit that is not getting covered while the networks breathe heavily over Hunter.
