There are still pockets (like St Louis) with very strong ethnic communities that identify as such. My next door neighbor identifies as Polish and his parents raised him to speak fluent Polish as well as English.
Bosnian,Italian, German, Greek, Polish, Lebanese, Irish and more very strong communities here with people fiercely identifying as such.
