IMO the media hasn't "shrugged," they've picked a side> mainstream media has clearly already concluded the trend of the future is fascism so they're catering to the egos of fascists
just as they catered to Reagan & Bushes when only a few comedians would admit these puppets for evil had **** for brains
media lies helped condemn generations of former middle class to poverty & media paid no price> experience tells them pandering to fascism is a no risk strategy for them

Do you mind saying what lens you used to get this shot?
I just got the Nikkor 400/4.5 S
Don't know what i'm doing yet with my photography, tempted to just bird on this first trip & take a separate photo tour later because i'm worried i'll be fumbling around too much

They're not. They've picked a side. "Journalists" as a class have decided that fascists will win, & they fantasize they walk a tightrope to avoid the maelstrom that will swallow the ordinary people. Women have already effectively lost much of their health care, & honestly, at what real consequence to "journalists?" I think we have to be realistic. Very few people who decide to make a living in the public eye are people of courage as opposed to people of high ego needs.

Cuba used to be well-known for its medical care provided to all, so it wouldn't be surprising for them to outperform a country notorious for denying health care to all but the wealthiest-- in the US even the middle class have to consider, every time they think of getting treatment, if this is the time the insurer will deny something & cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars you can't pay
But, yeah, our life expectancy has always been a disgrace compared to others
