Remember #Patreon set up new on-by-default sharing of your account information with every other Patreon user (and maybe the world)? Remember people posting how to turn it off, because they were using confusing language/dark patterns to try to #trick you into oversharing?
I got the "welcome to the new Patreon" today, and ... they've turned the "Community Profile" setting back on after I deliberately turned it off.
Go check your settings, and opt out -- again.

Actually, it represents a pretty normal approach to #valuation of #annuities and #pensions.
The method is: if the #province had not joined #CPP, but instead maintained its own plan (like Quebec), had exactly the same #contributions as it did with CPP, got the same rate of return on #investment as CPP, minus everything paid out of CPP? The reports actually went further and discounted the value of those payouts to get the lower number, even though it's not in the formula.

Use the formula/method the CPP legislation specifies. Talk to an actuary about how the math works out. Read the multiple reports from actual actuarial firms on how they come to the totals they do - they're making conservative assumptions.
This is just facts; it's math. It's provably correct. I do not believe the feds would actually allow Alberta to get the full amount, but the numbers are correct.
You can say it's not right, but it isn't incorrect.

Note that the value is #calculated according to the official method defined in the #CPP #legislation. #Alberta didn't #invent this out of whole cloth.
Alberta's share is large because they have always had a younger-than-average #workforce, meaning fewer #payouts from CPP, and higher average #pay and lower #unemployment, meaning higher contributions to CPP.
The numbers actually stand up if you look at them.
Maybe we should be grateful for their #generosity all these years?
