@9cf5dd33 I just saw this when I voted. There is a ton of compassion and love for 901 who lost one of her three cubs a few weeks ago. And, of course, she is female so there's a big push for her to win Fat Bear. I get it! It was hard not to vote for her, but my heart belongs to Otis. I was there the very week after 901 lost her cub. It was very sad indeed. Lots of time left so we will have to wait and see. #Alaska #FatBearWeek #VoteOtis

@472317d5 I think you are correct! Tomorrow, I will be voting for Otis, but I do wish I could vote for 901, too! Bless her heart! She has suffered such a loss this year. I will also vote for Chunk...dude is HUGE!!!! 🐻
Tomorrow is the BIG match for Fat Bear Week for me personally. I would like to invite ALL of you to vote for my most favorite Lord of the Falls, King of Katmai, #480 OTIS!!! Thank you!

@b27da0eb No...I've never put in for it, but I have seen Denali twice now. Never been to the park. The closest I've gotten to it is Talkeetna. Hoping to go that way next summer.
@9cf5dd33 Officially, the bears only have numbers. It's the watchers/viewers/visitors who give them names, but not all of the bears have names. It's an interesting process, too. Still learning about it all.
OK...this is just so wrong!
"To the dismay of Fat Bear Week enthusiasts across the country and around the world, the National Park Service will not host the event during the impending government shutdown.
Fat Bear Week is scheduled for Oct. 4-10, overlapping with what could be the first week of the shutdown. A senior Interior Department official told reporters on Thursday the department will not be able to report on the bears’ progress as its websites will be unavailable. (”The bears will continue to get fat,” the official noted.)"

@0548cb44 I am so very glad you had the chance to experience Alaska in such a great way! Barefoot rock climbing...wow! This will be my first trip into the Bristol Bay region, an area I have longed to visit. Hope you come back one day!
@0548cb44 Yes, it is! Just one of so many places I want to visit in Alaska, but I feel quite blessed that I have seen so much of this state when so few get to experience it. 🧡
@0548cb44 It's in Katmai National Park at Brooks Falls. No guide necessary. There are designated viewing areas for visitors to watch the bears fish. The bears at Brooks are very used to humans. We get bear training when we arrive. This has been a dream trip for me!
@0548cb44 I've lived in Alaska for 23 years and I've only seen one black bear in "the wild." I caught glimpses of black bears when I lived in Valdez. I've watched the live cams of Brooks Falls for quite some time and cannot wait to see these bears in person!
@9cf5dd33 There are two polls tomorrow: Poll 1 is betrween #32 Chunk and 806Jr. Poll 2 is between #480 Otis and #901. The final vote for Fat Bear will be Monday between the winners of tomorrow's vote. #FatBearWeek #VoteOtis
