I personally suspect the people who would normally become a PI still exist 😉.

However none are given a voice or platform and the masses are just too distracted by the the other types of Intellectual mentioned, as they are far more enticing and comfortable to digest for the instant-gratification world of today.

The best the hidden PI can do is be the change.  Ask the hard questions to those around them and those awake enough to be on the Independent web.
