The utter delight of discovering self-sown plants in the garden.

I spotted the first Hunt's bumblebee of the season yesterday on an allium.

Today was officially warbler day in the garden - 5 species in less than 15 minutes.

Palm, Blackpoll, Orange-crowned, Tennessee and Yellow-rumped.

Some photos to follow.

A glorious late autumn morning over Lac La Ronge. Venus/the last Silmaril shines brightly in the sky.

@2964c9c2 No, they seem to be limited to Europe, none of them here in Saskatchewan.
It is the sexy, wind-swept look for this white-throated sparrow.

This little bumblebee showed up today on my coneflowers. Very late in the year for a bumblebee, it's been a few weeks since I saw the last one, which would have been a Hunt's bumblebee. This one appears to be a tri-coloured bumblebee (Bombus ternarius), although I'd be interested if someone has an alternate suggestion.

A Brewer's blackbird showed up yesterday, all by themselves, and has been hanging out with the sparrows.

@3c71d96a was one of my favourite accounts on that other app, so happy to see them here.
After spending the summer oitsode, I brought my amaryllis' (amarylli ?) inside. They are supposed to dry out, have a short, cool period, and then when one brings them out around November, they will start blooming. This one, however, started pushing out a flower stalk soon after being brought inside. The flower opened a few days ago, and it is absolutely gorgeous!

A little Nashville warbler reaching for some aphids. They should up a few days after all the other warblers departed southwards.

@3782b968 @a1a1689f That is a pertinent question indeed.
@27e67f00 I do love the little brown ones, that's true. And that is a great photo of an exquisite little birds! Thanks.
 Happy Equinox!
Oh, and another little migrant just popped in for the very first time! A Pine Siskin, of the finch family. Another demonstration of why one shouldn't deadhead all the flowers this time of year. Not all seedeaters like feeders.

Well, they have arrived, another herald of the cold to come. First Dark-eyed Juncos arrived this morning. We are just a tad south of their year-round territory, meaning we only see them here in the city in the cold months.
