i had my phd induction event today and now everything feels very very real......... i am very excited and also simultaneously terrified but i am assured that's normal
@360b357e especially with the fact that these awful people are now (or soon? not sure if it's come into force yet) getting paid for any engagement and interactions they get for the awful things they say! if you disagree with them (like any decent person should) you can't respond or even view the tweet without it financially benefitting them
@360b357e exactly! you don't have to be on there for longer than a couple of minutes now before you see one of the worst people on the planet saying the most disgusting things, there's only so much the block button can do (my blocklist was up to 3000+ before i finally just left)
opened twitter for the first time in weeks because someone who didn't know i'd stopped using it sent me a message and just during those brief few minutes the amount of vile racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, and far right conspiracist drivel i saw was unreal, why is anyone still on there??
majority of what i saw was andrew tate-esque "russell brand speaks out against the Establishment™ and Big Pharma™ that's why channel 4 are trying to deplatform him!!!!!" as if he hasn't been a creep for decades. if the dispatches thing does mention him i won't be surprised in the slightest
also, i've finally received a bluesky invite code... not sure if people are even still using it anymore but i made an account. i'll still be on here but i may also post more shitposty/twitter type things on there unless i get bored and stop using it after a day (which could still happen)
