"Cable news is where the broad outlines of media conspiracy theories come true. Fox News really is an evil political propaganda operation. MSNBC really does stock its cabinet with politically connected employees to create good government relations for its corporate parent company. CNN really does use the studied facade of journalistic credibility to conceal a purely revenue-driven gutter sensationalist operation."

SPOUSE (browsing the internet): A man in Florida was bitten forty-one times by a rabid otter.
ME: I worry about a lot of things, but not that.

Not harshing on Beschloss in particular, because honestly, I see some version of this at least once a day, often more. I remember Atrios commenting some years ago on how pundits love to announce what the media (or whoever) "must" do. It should be obvious by now—it's been obvious since 2015, really—that they're not going to. So let's acknowledge that and ask where we go from here.

@01d5c050 My copy of Raymond Queneau's 'Cent Mille Milliards de Poèmes' comes from a very odd twenty-four-hour bookstore in New Haven called Book World ("Always Open"). It's fabulous, and of course, inexhaustible.
