If you've had storm surge &/or salt water flooding, care for your plants. After Sandy & 1up to 36 hours of flooding, I lost lots: wildflowers & trees: dogwood, old oaks (w/in a couple years), and shallow-rooted locusts (from wind & wet soil). Didn't occur to me to rinse, flush, w/ fresh water. Check w/ extension service or landscape company for advice. Flooding also causes soil compaction. Flooding with salt or fresh water can contaminate vegetable gardens.

Going to a shelter for me was better than sitting at home listening to every wind gust, tree creak & checking every few minutes to see if tidal creek was getting close to the house. Bring a power strip. My shelter had air mattresses on the school gym floor: some people couldn't get down on the floor so had to seek shelter elsewhere where they had cots.
