Looks like I’m in the market for a new read-it-later service. I don’t appreciate being forced into celebrating “Pride.” — What would the reactions be if a Jewish, Islamic, or Christian organization changed their app icon to celebrate something?

"A very wicked answer; for though to let loose the bridle to lusts, while our opinions are against such things, is bad; yet, to sin, and plead a toleration so to do, is worse. The Pilgrim’s Progress"
I love the idea of a common place notebook, but I just at can’t figure out the mechanics of it. I don’t read at a table and I can’t imagine pulling out my notebook in bed and attempting to jot down a quote without it being a pain.
Currently reading: The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan 📚 — New books arriving Monday, so I’m powering through. 1/2 way through part two. Still some good bits, but hidden in a slough of tedious reading.

Going out on a limb here, but do I know anyone who has/knows of affordable housing in Nashville? — I’ve got two Christians with full time jobs living on the streets. Can’t find vacancy at around $850 anywhere!
"Sealed with Christ’s body in their baptism, they are sealed to us, and we are one body.
The people we are serving on our streets are very members of our own church, very members of the eternal Kingdom of God, and it is our duty to love them, to support them, and to be with them.
Truly, if they are not at His table, we are not celebrating His holy meal."

The UMC allowing deacons to preside at the Holy Table is just nuts. Far outside the apostolic witness. — Then again, I guess they’ve already dropped any concern for the tradition, so YOLO.
Currently reading: The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan 📚 — Finished part 1. A few good quotes, but last half was a struggle. Not looking forward to part 2…

Deutsche: Eine Frage. Ich hab’s bemerkt auf YouTube dass Leute mehr und mehr ins Publikum “Du” statt “Sie” benutzen. Ist das in die letzte Jahrzehnte verändert?
Currently reading: The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan 📚 — Started strong, but I’m half way and really struggling now. Starting to get repetitive. Going to power through, though.

"This Talkative is not aware of; he thinks that hearing and saying will make a good Christian, and thus he deceiveth his own soul. Hearing is but as the sowing of the seed; talking is not sufficient to prove that fruit is indeed in the heart and life; and let us assure ourselves, that at the day of doom men shall be judged according to their fruits. It will not be said then, Did you believe? but, Were you doers, or talkers only? and accordingly shall they be judged."

If you’ve got children, you should get this book and read it to them every few months. It’s a great, age-appropriate, and approachable way to casually talk about safety with smaller children.

Currently reading: Diary of a Country Priest by Georges Bernanos 📚— Just finished chapter 4. Such an odd and wonderful book! I’m not entirely certain what all is going on, but I have deep sympathy for the priest and relate to his struggles among his village.

"Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin once, but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Rom 6:9-11"

It’s often easy online the feel “less than” because you don’t read enough theology. I found this quote from The Diary of a Country Priest encouraging. — Eat of theology, yes, but do not feast while others starve.
"Jesus saith unto him, “Feed my sheep.”"

It’s super interesting what’s still possible on an N64. Amazing what maths and long study can achieve. People are pretty cool. youtu.be/xwls5SpNn…

"As a child of God, each person is entitled to enjoy the goodness of the Creator’s world, but is also charged with the responsibility to cultivate it to bring forth God’s good gifts. For many poor people, the good intentions of the affluent have robbed them of the privileges that are their birthright and frustrated their attempts to take responsibility in the Father’s good creation."

"The challenge, however, is to wed this compassion to action that works. The poor don’t need what they often receive from the affluent: secondhand clothes, free Thanksgiving meals and taxpayer-funded government aid. The poor, whether in the developed or developing world, need opportunity. They need the freedom to address their own poverty in their own context."

There is no greater joy as a priest than seeing God do a powerful work in the life of a parishioner. — God has prepared a feast of joy and happiness for his laborers. It is to our own detriment if we chose to sit in our busyness. In the fields of His harvest there is great joy!

The ACNA should have put a hold on WO at our foundation. I fear this is an issue that will further destroy our communion. — For or against, I think we can all agree it was the issue that kicked off the fall of TEC. We should tread lightly.
Bible Translation I’d Patron if I become Rich: The King Charles Translation: 1611 Authorized Bible given the IVP BCP 1662 update. 1. Update to follow modern Bible formatting & punctuation. 2. What a mess. — This whole thing could be avoided by standing firm on a Christian sexual ethic, discipling people into the faith, and not looking the other way at sin. I bless people — i.e. sinners — all the time. But never would I bless a gang for what’s good in their collective. Individual members? Yes. Finished reading: Lord Sunday by Garth Nix 📚 — I must say. Not the ending I’d expected or would have hoped for. But, at least, after nearly twenty years I know how it all ended.

Saw #2 in the series sitting on my daughter’s shelf and couldn’t remember how the series ended. I looked it up and realized I never finished the series! The final books were released after college. I’m really feeling for my faithful Roman brothers and sisters. Excepting the sudden death of the Pope and his quick replacement by an orthodox bishop, I just don’t see a way out of this for them. — I pray the Eastern Church is already discussing ways to provide faithful Romans with a safe harbor.
"Then Paul stood in the midst of the lights and decorations in the city and said, “People of Suburbia, I perceive that in all things you are also religious. For as I passed by and beheld your lights and decorations, I found a blow-up with this inscription: ‘Happy Holidays’. What you therefore celebrate in ignorance, Him I declare unto you.” — Stirring for Advent"

I’m not one to delve into politics or to ever sign these social media open letters, but I feel I must say at least a little something about the Middle Tennessee Christians for Justice in Palestine. This letter misuses scripture and allows populist excitement around a trendy cause to overshadow real evil. ... microblog.marmanold.com https://microblog.marmanold.com/2023/11/28/im-not-one.html
Those who say that God no-longer does miracles, need to step outside. The Spirit moves in our streets and the miracles of the New Creation break in daily.
Anyone have a read-it-later service they’d recommend? Pocket is getting bad at parsing many articles. Requirement is that it’s got an Android app. I mostly read off-line on my Onyx Boox. (Hence why Pocket not downloaded entire articles is a big problem for me.)
