A study finds that generative AI exhibits gender bias in the images of professions it creates. Dismayed at the findings and that the findings are not at all shocking. https://www.tandfonline.com/eprint/4J2HHZHTVWZQIAPZC8UX/full?target=10.1080%2F14680777.2023.2263659
I'm on Day 5 of Livin' La Covida Loca and tomorrow will emerge from isolation, greeted by trumpets and rainbows (in my head)...assuming I test negative. Get well soon, all you who have It now. #covid
This a prediction from the 1950s is amazing. But I think it also shows some of the limitations of our predictive powers, especially ever since technology went from a steady walk to falling into wormholes. Still, props to Mr. Sullivan!

@40cd5708 For the past 2 yrs, I've had an occasional project of automating the process of posting the links I get in closed mailing lists. I never get around to finish the project, though. (I am a shit programmer, but really enjoy it.) #ShareThePrivilege
Excellent discussion on a private list (sorry about that) about the #FCC's refusal to use captchas or any other way of judging whether submitted comments come from AI or a human. This is to protect every American's First Amendment right. Yay, but it's likely to result in tens of thousand (or more) comments on the new #NetNeutrality policy, drowning out the comments of flesh-based citizens. Letting the 1A silence our voices?
I prompted chatGPT to write an opening monologue for a late night talk show that treats the plot of Hamlet as if it were breaking news. It produced a couple of minutes of plausible monologue material. Sample: Here's the end:

@58fbd252 @9709757e "Hallucination" has become a term of art,. Personally, I'm fine with it as long as we recognize -- as the term obscures -- that chat AI *always* hallucinates, for the reason you say. It's just that more often than not, its hallucinations turn out to be true.
