There is always risk but it’s small. It is not truly airgapped if you have to connect it to your laptop. Coldcard lets you do the update without plugging it into your computer. But you still have to use a microsd card to get the update file or transaction signatures from your computer to the device. I believe you could also use the passport to scan QR codes and never plug it into your computer. But for updates on the passport I think you may have to use Bluetooth.
These are all very complicated and sophisticated attacks that are theoretically possible to do but difficult and expensive to pull off.
Coldcard and passport are really good. Coldcard is cheaper though and has a long track record. Passport is basically a copy of the coldcard code with some added features like the camera and Bluetooth. If you’re ultra paranoid, you could do a multisig setup with your jade, coldcard, and passport. Your jade could be plugged in, coldcard airgapped with an sd card, and passport uses camera for QR codes.
One of my black friends in high school couldn’t say ask and would keep saying axe. Another friend of mine couldn’t stand it and would keep giving him shit for it. A few weeks later we were all making fun of each other and I said “well at least I know how to say ask.” He looked me dead in the eyes and said it perfectly for the first time. I couldn’t believe it. I think most people are not racist but we learn to be more sensitive to it because of media. When I was a kid, I asked my best friend who was black if he likes watermelon. He was at my house and my mom cut some up for us to eat. He said are you racist? I was like uhhh what?? He said that everyone knows black people love watermelon. I told him I didn’t know that they do and that I thought most people love watermelon. He said that’s true and we laughed about it and ate watermelon together 😂
I’m starting to think that too. You can’t force someone to take the orange pill. They have to take it themselves. So are you really orange pilling them when they have to listen to the podcasts and read books and do their own research?
I looked into a crystal ball and this is what I saw:
The year is 2027. Bitcoin has just peaked during this cycle. Fed interest rates are -3% and inflation is running hot. National debt has doubled reaching 70 trillion. To combat inflation, the federal government has banned ingredient labels. No one knows what is in their milk anymore so manufacturers can save on ingredients and bring prices down. The paranoid crypto anarchists say it’s full of cricket milk and seed oils. The media assures you it is cows milk. The fed needs to get inflation under control so they hike rates and reach 0%. Turns out coinbase doesn’t have full reserves and everyone runs for the exits. Coinbase implodes and people get rekt. Michael Saylor loses all his bitcoin. hfsp.jpg.
Saylor asks the government to bail him out, they give him fiat but creates more inflation. It’s not enough. Saylor files for bankruptcy. Inflation doesn’t come down. People riot for assistance. Printing goes crazy and bitcoin moons. Plebs become rich and buy Saylor’s yacht.
Pretty sure that’s gonna happen.
