Not enough chatter about how dramatic Venus and Jupiter were during the #eclipse.
I knew I would see them, I just didn't expect how bright they would be. They were there just blazing away. I think Saturn was supposed to be visible too, but I didn't locate it in the excitement.
@872ab8e1 "Bell Labs created the transistor, and Fairchild Semiconductor created the integrated circuit, but neither company is still around."
Umm still know lots of people who work at Bell Labs and their pay cheques would say differently. Had an R&D team there myself not so long ago.
Also you can visit them at https://www.bell-labs.com
I've been noticing over my years on here that #Mastodon seems to have a longer tail than the ol' bird site did.
Over there once your toot dropped from followers recent few hours of incoming feed, it was mostly lost in time.
Here a catchy post can more easily keep sputtering for days, with surges a week or month later.

If you're observing that Mastodon is "super quiet today" and you're following fewer than fifty people, that might be a root cause.
A reminder to click that follow button when you see stuff you like. My sense is that about 200 ppl or so is where you reach a critical mass.
You can unfollow easily later any feeds that diverge from your interests, or where people are aloof and just want to broadcast without interacting.

@f8d9bc1c started there too. Was online right from the mid '80s as a student with a big research corp, where we had our own internal newsgroups, as well as those of the larger world.
Crazy we used to share our full names, email addresses and employer info in our post signatures with no concern.
Also, signature files! With our favorite quotes or ASCII art in there.
@6ee90ca1 hear hear! Used to enjoy leafing through their catalogs, but hearing about their ownership I'd rather craft my own cardboard box from a solid tree from scratch.
