If I listed my tiny house and yurt on airbtc, would you be more confident to book a stay?

Also, if you ever want to book a stay at the homestead and get a tour (which is basically a little permaculture class) just DM me. I'll get you a calendar with availability and pricing.

I'm in the heart of South West Michigan wine country and only 15min from the best beaches in the Midwest. Lots of fun stuff to do and you can pay with Bitcoin!
I loved my minidisc player. It still seems so futuristic to me 💽
Dude the mini disc was one of those technologies that had the right balance of tradeoffs but got overshadowed by brittle mp3 players. I still have all my CDs but the hard drive with all my digital music is long gone.
Giving away .04btc is putting your money where your mouth is. nostr:nprofile1qqsqfjg4mth7uwp307nng3z2em3ep2pxnljczzezg8j7dhf58ha7ejgprdmhxue69uhhyetvv9ujucnfw33k76twwpshy6ewvdhk6qguwaehxw309ahx7um5wghx6at5d9h8jampd3kx2apwvdhk6qg5waehxw309aex2mrp0yhxgctdw4eju6t0udvd2m
This is how I start my tractor... Hot wire.

The dash shorted out and caught on fire last winter and the starter relay rusted out so I took the dash off and hot wire it to start it now. Who needs gauges and ignition switches anyway...
 I pull the engine choke.
 Less shit to break.
Piece of shit. It's a foton. One of the biggest mistakes I've made. Buying an oddball tractor with no parts availability.
The sour cherry kush is looking very nice! All the other plants are growing well, but there's something about that sour cherry that catches they eye. Looking forward to another update!
We sold all but two of our lambs for Bitcoin this year. All for Bitcoin last year. Go to Bitcoin meetups regularly and you will find your market. I drive up to 2hrs to attend meetups .

I was able to negotiate a cheap power rate, partially by calling the power company every month for over a year.
 No, I won't say.
Now that I know corny chat can do slides, I'll easily be able to offer this presentation. People will be able to ask questions and interact too.
I'm adding a little every year to the solar power production. Bottle neck seems to be the charge controllers, still seem necessary for direct DC.
Dudes will be like "fuck bitcoin, i'm a privacy maximalist. nothing else matters"

While I have a big orchard (about 50 trees) I haven’t had a large garden in the last few years....

 **Permaculture Principle: Observe and Interact**
Rabbits trimming cannabis buds
https://i.nostr.build/d04D.jpg
Last season, a cannabis branch broke and fell onto the ground in the rabbit colony. I noticed the rabbits did a pretty good job of eating all the fan leaves and some sugar leaves but seemed to leave the buds alone. Since it was on the ground, the buds were pretty dirty and I didn't end up doing anything with it, but I kept the observation in mind.
https://i.nostr.build/JnLUZhteGYaqyH2t.jpg
https://i.nostr.build/SD4AwHmeVAks240C.jpg
Recently a branch broke off one of the plants and was hanging tangled up with the rest. I took the opportunity to do a little test to see if the rabbits would trim the bud again. I hung the branch on the fence for several days, and to my surprise, they did an excellent job trimming!
https://i.nostr.build/KEFJHVtiuy84uA5b.jpg
Trimming the cannabis is the most labor intensive step of the cannabis production system here. I'm looking forward to using the rabbits to trim the cannabis at scale for me this year. They do the work, get a free meal, and I get the product and a free meal too! All thanks to that observation last season and a little interaction with it this season given the opportunity.

 ##### Permaculture Principle: Catch and Store Energy #####
https://i.nostr.build/xESLBtC5iD93ysOi.jpg
This pasture is an young example of the my vision for the what whole homestead will become once mature. A giant battery charged by natural energy flows.
https://i.nostr.build/ViLxugXE0DkBOwCk.jpg
Catching energy from the sun in the form of solar panels at the yurt, but also in the form of photosynthesis in the plants.
https://i.nostr.build/BRkYZ.jpg
Strips of pasture are segmented by swales which act as a pattern for planting rows of fruit trees intermixed with other perennial plants. The rows of plants add much greater surface area for catching and storing sunlight.
https://i.nostr.build/OxMkT0vtD1q8HfZk.jpg
Additionally, the swales, which are level ditches dug on contour of the slope, are catching and storing energy too. When grazing the sheep in-between the rows of trees, they deposit fertility which is washed down and captured by the swales depositing the energy directly at the roots of the perennials.
https://i.nostr.build/ChcMEpAyp6XiVUlH.jpg
This pasture used to be a corn/bean field that only photosynthesized from ~June-October. Now it's able to catch and store much more sunlight by integrating animals and perennial agriculture together.

I bought this yurt used for less than the cost if I were to buy all the materials at the big box hardware store. It was listen on eBay, strange place to try to sell a yurt so I was the only person to bid on the auction. I had to take it apart and rebuild it as well as replace a lot of missing/broken boards. This one is 20ft, I feel like it could be build diy style, even if you purchased the skin, for a very reasonable price for the square footage. If you pay someone for a kit or to build it for you, definitely expensive.
It definitely depends on size and how fancy you want to get. This one is basically 2x4s and pine car siding for the floor built on deck framing.
I would add, don't damage the environment and don't be extractive.

https://i.nostr.build/5IDSDBceTlT8A2ck.jpg
We are trying something new this year finishing the lambs. Because we are slightly over stocked, the butcher date is earlier and the lambs were a bit below average weight, we are feeding all the pasture we have left exclusively to the lambs. Along with the pasture I'm feeding them tree leaves by pruning the trees at the edge of the pasture.
https://i.nostr.build/sSz8OdQRdp6AXPrM.jpg
https://i.nostr.build/KNCFK5OoKWkYVFse.jpg
Because we put up a new hard fence in the maple sugar bush and we managed to score some discounted hay we decided it would be best to build a small paddock for the rams and let the ewes have most of the woods. We are feeding hay for now but once the lambs are butchered, we will be moving the ewes back on pasture or putting them on the turnips we planted across the street at the neighbors. It's always interesting what challenges and opportunities each season provides grazing the sheep and producing lamb. Especially as the homestead travels along its natural path of succession.

The lambs are grazing their way through what's left of the best pasture we have. About two weeks left until the first butcher date. In a few days we will be taking the lambs to the handling system for a weigh-in and check up. They look like they put in some good growth since the last check, so I'm hoping they average weight is back up to normal. The season seemed to fly by this year, hard to believe we will be delivering these lambs to bitcoiners in just a few weeks!

 # Dialing in the chicken compost system #
https://v.nostr.build/HU4VYHYYicwUljdW.mp4
Refining and improving the animal systems at the homestead have been on the back burner because we were focusing our attention on completing the tiny house rental and providing the best experience for our guests. Now that we have the tiny house all set, I've started working on the chicken compost system.
https://i.nostr.build/KcBhpxMlrEuyGIlQ.jpg
Right now, there is a pile of winter waste hay from our dairy sheep and some wood chips. The chickens scratch through the pile breaking it down as the gobble up all sorts of bugs and other things to eat. When I come to collect the eggs each morning, I spend 10 minutes building the pile back up. The pile is starting to go thermophilic and develop some nice heat.
https://v.nostr.build/e14v4aR8XiRHMYaE.mp4
Now that we have ducks in addition the guard goose, we have a couple different water troughs. The water gets pretty stinky and nasty after a few days, so I've been using a drill pump to saturate the compost pile with the nutrient rich water.

Our chickens system is inspired by Karl Hammer, Perma Pastures, and Edible Acres

 ## Permaculture Principle: Produce no waste ##
Using hay nets and cattle panel rings to reduce hay waste
https://i.nostr.build/HNA76cszFJWscLFS.jpg
Today I had to put out some fresh bales of hay for the horses and katahdin ewes which had me thinking of the permaculture principle produce no waste
https://i.nostr.build/O4rR0.jpg
Hay is the largest input at the homestead so we have an incentive to get the most out of it. The first way we do is to make sure as much of it ends up as food for the animals as possible. We do this by putting the bales in hay nets and cattle panel rings.
https://i.nostr.build/Syxz9NjeRxJyjV5f.jpg
After the sheep have eaten the bale down and pooped/urinated all over the straw, I collect it and use it as mulch for garden beds to grow food for us. Plus any manure from the horses ends up as food for our chickens, the resulting compost to grow more food.
https://i.nostr.build/G4GVHucd1n3WP7I5.jpg
https://i.nostr.build/G57NZjBUe0w4scv5.jpg
Even though the hay is an expensive input we get the most out of it by producing no waste. Anything that ends up as waste in one system becomes food for another until all that's left of it is soil in our garden beds.

**Permaculture Principle: Creatively use and respond to change**

When I first arrived at the homestead, there was a ~2acre stand of mature woods which I didn't have any intention of using for production. I thought it would just be a nice area to enjoy.
https://v.nostr.build/Ktdi4AM6FAuCfopY.mp4
Once I started making maple syrup, I realized there were a lot of sugar maple trees in those woods. So, I hired a forestry consultant to advise me on which trees I could sell to promote the growth of the sugar maple trees. After the logging the forest was vastly different.
https://i.nostr.build/Uo6HkymWgsJB99C2.jpg
We had the loggers make paths through the woods as they dragged the trees out which we used to create a track around the woods for our horse to run on. At the same time, so much light had opened up in the canopy that there was more growth in the understory than we could have expected.
https://i.nostr.build/9lwn4zPsdGZsY6e3.jpg
This undergrowth was a problem, because it was obstructing the access to the sugar maple trees. At the same time I had a problem managing our rams, we were moving a handful of rams every 2-4 days same as all the ewes and lambs together. It was roughly the same work for just a few animals as the large flock. There is a permaculture saying, the problem is the solution, this rang true in this instance. I realized I could put the rams in the fenced in center of the horse track to eat down all the understory growth keeping the forest clear for collecting maple sap.
https://i.nostr.build/mKVJPKYxlZFXxTeW.jpg
Eventually golden oyster mushrooms started fruiting from the all the stumps and tops from the logging. Now we get buckets and buckets of mushrooms from this area as well. By creativity responding to the changes from the disturbance of logging we turned this 2acre woods into an incredible useful and productive space.

 **Permaculture Principle: Observe and Interact**
Rabbits trimming cannabis buds
https://i.nostr.build/d04D.jpg
Last season, a cannabis branch broke and fell onto the ground in the rabbit colony. I noticed the rabbits did a pretty good job of eating all the fan leaves and some sugar leaves but seemed to leave the buds alone. Since it was on the ground, the buds were pretty dirty and I didn't end up doing anything with it, but I kept the observation in mind.

https://i.nostr.build/SD4AwHmeVAks240C.jpg

The cannabis is absolutely thriving in the rabbit colony cannabis garden
https://i.nostr.build/j17tXGNrS4WfG3kD.jpg
This year I only used fertility from within the rabbit colony to grow the cannabis. In the past, I've applied multiple feedings of composted horse manure processed by our chickens to grow the plants.
https://i.nostr.build/x5LjGFlaIXkAOO5u.jpg
While the only time I water the plants in general is for a day or two after transplanting, the weather has been excellent this year for growing cannabis. Rain every few days with very mild heat waves.
https://i.nostr.build/zXrfdq4PG8Ecjr2j.jpg
Some of the plants are growing nearly as well as the season which I tried really hard to grow massive plants. Except this year, I've hardly tried at all. I attribute the success once again to the weather as well as a few years of building the soil in the garden thanks to the rabbits. The tallest plant, White Widow x Redbud Haze, is over 10ft tall.
https://i.nostr.build/e3aWkRKDxL1FrwpF.jpg
This season I couldn't decide between two nice male expressions of Redbud Haze to pollinate the garden. I will be using both, one has already dropped pollen and been fed to the rabbits. The other is getting ready to open it's pollen sacks soon, so the seeds won't be totally random on the buds. The deeper seeds are more likely the earlier expression and the outer seeds should be the later. Since the second male has been growing all season it is giant. It should be a nice meal for the rabbits too.

Speaking of meals for the rabbits, I recently pruned the large White Widow because it was growing into the plant next to it. Those prunings went straight to the rabbits. Honestly, I never could have imagined a world in which I'm happily feeding female cannabis to animals.

All in all, I'm very happy with how the season is going for both the cannabis and the rabbits. I was recently on the Survival Podcast (link below) with @jackspirko talking mostly about the rabbits in the system. I will be bringing the monthly permaculture live stream back from hiatus on Wednesday September 4th at 8pm to discuss how I use permaculture to grow the cannabis and all the techniques involved from start to finish. Tune in and chill out if you want to hear/ask all about the cannabis side of the rabbit colony cannabis garden.

Cannabis thriving in the rabbit colony cannabis garden with minimal effort
https://i.nostr.build/5GXRw.jpg
The cannabis was transplanted in the rabbit colony on May 13th. I chose to plant high on the slope closer together this season. After a few years of observation, I think this area gets the best sun exposure so the plants grow best here.
https://i.nostr.build/KGaWq.jpg
To start this season, I dug soil from the low area of the rabbit colony to fertilize the cannabis. Any excess nutrients have been caught in this area. So far, I've only watered once right after transplanting, thanks the soil rich in organic matter and the wood chip/straw mulch.
https://i.nostr.build/9zXdJ.jpg
The ladybugs showed up almost immediately and are doing their work to keep the pest pressure on the plants in check.
https://i.nostr.build/VwP5B.jpg
The plants are in the ground 10 days earlier than last season and are all looking healthy. I've been able to determine the sex on them and have started to pull the males to feed to the rabbits. I have selected one male which I will keep and let it drop pollen for a few days before removing it so the plants can produce seed, which is the main yield I'm looking for.
https://i.nostr.build/kZB2z.jpg
I'm looking forward to see how big I can get the cannabis to grow this season. I will be feeding chicken composted horse manure after replacing all the males with more female plants in the next week or so.

Young food forest producing hundreds of pounds of food
https://i.nostr.build/J6Azl.jpg
https://i.nostr.build/ro3ea.jpg
https://i.nostr.build/Z5WmP.jpg
This is a 1/10acre food forest. It is 6 years old, and just starting to come into production. Last season it produced hundreds of pounds of food without buying any inputs. Potatoes, squash, garlic, strawberry, raspberry, gooseberry, currant, rhubarb, horseradish, hazelnut, peaches, and apples. All the weeds/prunings feed rabbits which yeild protein. At 6 years old, the production is just starting to come on. Once the system is mature it will produce much much more.

 #### Raspberries are starting to put on their fall fruit set ####
https://i.nostr.build/jwzZLx9kuZbJleGm.jpg
The flow of the fall harvest is beginning! I pruned the raspberries back pretty aggressively in the food forest this summer, so there isn't going to buckets of berries. I'll be able to pick a quick snack as I walk by throughout the day. In the meantime, the raspberries are doing their job of filling in their niche in the food forest keeping other unwanted plants from growing. Instead of weeding I get to harvest tasty berries!

Traded three of our rabbits for three muscovy ducks.
https://i.nostr.build/dvJP.jpg
One of the principles of permaculture, value diversity. I met someone in the neighborhood who was interested in a trio of our rabbits to start breeding for meat. Instead of selling him the rabbits, I wondered if he might have anything we could use around the homestead instead. Turns out he had too many ducks so I offered to trade one for one. Now we have chickens, geese, and ducks increasing the diversity of our fowl. Another benefit of distributing breeding stock instead of selling the meat is that now I've increased the overall resilience of my neighborhood. We will all be more capable of cooperation in hard times. I've built some social capital with a another neighbor, all while avoiding the fiat system. We are also working out a trade for some gravel to improve the roads at the homestead. It feels more and more people are rejoining and opting out of fiat. Even if they don't know or care about Bitcoin, they are finding ways like homesteading and bartering. I'm bullish!

**Adding more ducks and chickens to the flock**
https://i.nostr.build/dvJP.jpg
Last fall we traded some rabbits for ducks with a neighbor and this spring the ducks started laying eggs. They spent most of the summer trying to hatch the eggs and eventually successfully produced one little duckling.
https://i.nostr.build/NVc7LvrtZpDCXlKG.jpg
After only a few days they rejected it forcing us to put it in a brooder and care for it. We bought a few more ducks to keep it company.
https://i.nostr.build/KumeFciTsG8onsZQ.jpg
Since we were now servicing the ducks in the brooder we figured it made sense to follow up the ducks with some chicks too. So we loaded our incubator.
https://i.nostr.build/aQYsscyqNzxxgcVM.jpg
https://i.nostr.build/Ng3Z6tT5fj4T15wB.jpg
https://i.nostr.build/8WgH6pNwKrVVAHwD.jpg
As soon as the chicks hatched the ducks were large enough to go out into the chicken compost system. We kept the chicks inside in a small brooder for about a week then moved them outside to a larger brooder. If all goes well, next spring we will have double the egg production!
