We organized the first meetup of the #Czech #Mastodon community - #MastoPivo. 30 people came. It was great to meet people you knew only from the online space in person.

It seems that #Bluesky is getting some traction, so it's good to summarize the facts:
- it's centralized (99% of users on one instance),
- it has insufficient moderation,
- it's not easily publicly browsable,
- it has terrible terms of service (you grant them broad rights to all your content).

The only thing that makes it different from X in principle is that it's not run by a mad man (yet)... Ah, I forgot it's Jack Dorsey's project, nevermind.

I was pretty shocked today what a terrible experience it is to run #Fedora #Linux in #VirtualBox on Windows. Is there a better free option? Perhaps VMware Player?
We're having a #Fedora installfest at FIT BUT in #Brno. Lots of students coming today. The first student who came brought a #MacBook Air with Apple Silicon to install Fedora on it.
I'm glad I looked at it a month ago and knew what do to.

A 2009 #Macbook got a second life. It had #MacOS Sierra (EOL 4 years ago) installed and was terribly slow with it. The original hard drive replaced with SSD, memory upgraded from 4 to 8 GB, #Fedora #Linux (#Silverblue) installed and it's a decent laptop again.

@ba8dc531 pozor, je to past! V dalších sériích se Lišaj transformuje na Monarchu a ten je aktivní víc než dost. 😉
I maintain computers with #Fedora #Linux for more than 10 people (family, friends...). This is the oldest installation: ThinkPad X201, Fedora installed in 2013, it has gone through countless upgrades, always smoothly.

It's days like today that expose the income inequality. I recently gave a 14-year-old ThinkPad to a family who were happy because they couldn't afford a $300 low-end laptop for their kids to do homework on. Today the Internet is full of people who can't wait to drop $2000 on a phone that is marginally better than what they already have in their pocket. 🤯

@2388cc31 And you pay a high price with your privacy for that. I'd rather direct people to privacy-respecting Linux distros and help them with that.
