 Napoleon

I am currently reading Napoleon by Andrew Roberts. He has a lot of detail on the battles, but the maps in the book are not very helpful to me to understand what happened. I found a YouTube channel that does a good job of illustrating the battles (https://www.youtube.com/@EpichistoryTv). If I watch the videos in conjunction with reading the book, I get a much better understanding.

Prepped the pepper bed for winter. Poblanos, jalapeños, and datils, with one zulu. The zulus, a black sweet pepper, were interesting, but the flesh was rather thin and the peppers were pretty small. Next year will plant the other peppers but not the zulus. Will try to find another sweet pepper that does well in Vermont.

I recently purchased an AI kit for the Raspberry Pi (raspberrypi.com/products/ai-kit). Sounded interesting, though I am not quite sure yet what I am going to do with it. I had not used the Raspberry Pi 5 in a bit, so it took me a little while to remember how to connect to it from my Ubuntu desktop (I used Raspberry Pi Connect - I used to use VNC). The hardware went together pretty easily. As I worked through the instructions, I came to the part about the necessary Raspberry Pi camera, which I did not have. So I ordered one from Adafruit (www.adafruit.com). Typical of many of the projects I start, I often find that I am missing some components or tools. Just part of the adventure.
I just purchased the Vevor worm bin. Any recommendations on worm sources? #grownostr #permaculture
 Using AI to Ban Books
April 15, 2024
This article is a little dated, but I am finally getting around to writing about it. https://yro.slashdot.org/story/23/08/14/2157234/iowa-school-district-is-using-ai-to-ban-books Iowa School District Is Using AI To Ban Books - Slashdot"According to the Globe Gazette, the school board of Mason City, Iowa has begun leveraging AI technology to cultivate lists of potentially bannable books from the district's libraries ahead of the 2023/24 school year. Engadget reports: In May, the Republican-controlled state legislature passed, and ..." Simply giving police, thought police or otherwise, more informational power encourages more draconian interventions. It is hard to keep the masses from giving power to these people. Brings to mind the debate over legislating AI. The legislators would screw that up, and as we see, use it against us.
 Wooden Bowl

I am working on carving a wooden bowl
out of a piece of maple with an angle grinder. This is the first time
carving, and really the first time using an angle grinder. I did not
know that there were grinding and sanding discs for the grinder, and it
has been interesting experimenting with them. My only real issue, and
one that has the project on hold, is that, particularly for the inside
of the bowl, the dust kicks up into my face. I wear a dust mask, but if I
put goggles over my eyeglasses I cannot see with the moisture buildup.
If I don’t wear goggles, the dust really irritates my eyes. I have
started researching for a cowl to put over the grinder that can be
attached to a vacuum to manage the dust.
Just testing, not sure how this works.
