Birmingham is such a progressive city. :nkoLove:

Edit: fellas, this is street art lol

The city council’s financial situation has gotten so bad that the city’s libraries are running out of library cards and can’t afford to replace them.

My mom is telling me that sometimes they go to other branch libraries and ask to take some of their stock of library cards so they don’t run low.

We’re really at the point where the city is having to ration library cards.
Remember that Bandcamp got sold by Epic Games to some music licencing corporation called Songtradr?

Well, it got worse. Workers at Bandcamp have found themselves locked out of critical systems, are being forced to shed jobs without any consultation, and most importantly of all, the union (United) has been told to fuck off by Songtradr officials.

This is a very good start, I’m sure.

Edit: I meant "ono/jego", I made a typo
One of the team members on the call is called “Alla” and every so often I keep thinking that they’re asking God to help us

I mean, Allah help me in this meeting firstly
I got one of those insurance scam calls.

They told me that they wanted to help me about a small incident that happened with my car two years ago.

Of course, this is untrue because the insurance is in my dad's name (I'm a listed driver) and I have never been involved in any traffic incidents.

Anyway, I proceeded to tell this person about what happened. But I went full dramatic. I told him that I was driving 70 km/h in a 65 km/h zone and I hit a pedestrian.

I then proceeded to tell him that the pedestrian went all over my car and went like two metres into the air.

He seemed to have some kind of script and was faltering because he was like "well, did you exchange information with this person...?"

But I kept going. I told him that I kept driving over the body, and then I reversed back to finish the job and that I probably killed him.

While I was telling the story, I was pretending to sob, and he was just so bewildered that he kept asking me if I exchanged information.

"Dude, I killed him. I can't exchange information with a dead person."

Then he got really mad and started swearing at me and calling me a time waster and an awful person, then he hung up.

Hiring managers today are like this:

"Forget everything you learnt in university. You won't need it here."
"But I didn't go to university..."
"Oh, well you need a degree to work here, sorryyyyy."
British dystopia is when the police are so cash-strapped that they form partnerships with supermarkets to fund the surveillance state

 Did you know?

The UK has the .uk TLD and not the .gb TLD because when the UK invented their own domain name system, they gave any UK website the uk TLD.

Except… It wasn’t how you think. The UK ordered URLs in reverse to how we do it.

For example, the URL pizza.slice.uk would instead be uk.slice.pizza.

This was also before the subdomains were added, such as co.uk or org.uk meaning that the early websites on the UK’s Internet were just uk.address.

One of the first websites was that of the British Library, at uk.bl. When the general DNS project came into place, the UK kept the .uk TLD, but all they did was flip the URLs to how we would do it — including legacy ones that didn’t have a subdomain. Which is why the British Library is at bl.uk and not bl.org.uk.

So if the UK had it’s way, we would be writing URLs ‘backwards’ to how we do it!
I find it so very funny that the so-called “evidence” of 0w0.is being problematic is just these two posts I made. There’s nothing else.

There is no “evidence” except “Yaseen said something that ruffled feathers”.

Edit: mastodon.art did not use my post as evidence. I was confusing with another post.
Oh, you identify as an attack helicopter?

Then you won’t mind if I tell the military that you’re violating civilian airspace and national security and have you be shot down by a surface-to-air missile system?

 Did you know?

Bisexual people have a greater chance of surviving a tornado than people who are dead.
It is considered rude to run over pedestrians.

That’s why you must always reverse back over to finish the job.
Welshpixie’s behaviour over the last few days have reminded me of a certain type of person I call the “well-intentioned white folk”.

You may call it “performative wokeness”, “virtue signalling”, and of course, it applies to anything else of this calibre.

But in my life, I have always encountered this very specific kind of white person who claims to be an ally against racism, but their actions are anything but – it really feels more like it’s cloying and annoying rather than productive.

What do I mean? Well, for starters, welshpixie’s behaviour does not reflect any kind of productive anti-racism effort, but more of a self-centred perception of that person’s performance of allyship.

In my eyes, a good ally (whether it’s a white person, cis person, abled person, etc) should do something akin to these four things:

They should call out injustice whenever they see it and challenge it in their daily lives (as much as they are able to).
They should amplify, support, and understand the concerns and problems of the minority group.
They should speak up on these points where possible, utilising their advantage as a member of the majority group to speak where the minority cannot
They should look inward at their own behaviour to see if there is anything to change.

Can anyone tell me how writing slanderous statements about other people without evidence or proof aids the cause of anti-racism? Does lashing out at criticism of someone’s project meet those points? Does lumping any opposition to Ro’s project in with the “white queers”? (Now that one is actually racist lol)

Does any of welshpixie’s actions amplify the voice of a racial minority? Notice how there is no reference to any actual racism content in their recent diabtres – the imdat case was baseless, the recent missives to instance moderators even more so baseless!

It is in my eyes, my believe, that welshpixie is acting “out of bounds” so to speak.

There is nothing wrong with white people calling out racial injustice. If it happened more often, we would be in a better society.

There is, however, something wrong with white people using the veneer of racial justice to belittle, attack, misdirect, and write lies about other people.

There are several white people I am grateful to have met on Fedi who act as an ally. The key here is they do so knowing that ally is not a title – it is a description. They do not toot their own horn, and they certainly don’t make missives about it. They do so, because it is natural to them.

Welshpixie wants to be seen and not heard in their “allyship”. They are the white saviour trope. Something I have seen time and time again IRL. It is disrespectful, frustrating, and it makes me feel like it’s counter-productive.

One should always should bring a voice to the voiceless. But you shouldn’t speak like you are the voiceless.

Why call these types the “well-intentioned white folks”? It’s because the road to hell is paved in good intentions.
Welshpixie sent a slander-laden report to every instance accusing everyone of racism?? This is real?????

Dear fucking god, I hate the white saviour types so much
How can ANYONE think that the people who operate The Bad Space are trustworthy?

Two of the instances who are the so-called foundation of TBS have admins who have very thoughtlessly caused chaos by deliberately saying false accusations against other users without evidence and without apology.

Rage.love had an admin call Nina (I forgot her @ sorry) anti-indigenous and racist. However, it turns out that this person had NEVER said any of these things and instead was a completely false allegation that had NO PROOF. Was there an apology to Nina? Not a real one. The damage has been done in that case. How many people have trusted the word of that admin and assumed that said person was a racist, when that never happened?

Only just today, we have had welshpixie, the admin of Mastodon.art, in real time, claim that another user was hiding racial slurs behind censor stars. Except that there is an edit history that proves that those words censored was “asshole”. Have they apologised? No, in fact they have continued on this exact path despite there being actual hard-coded into the FABRIC OF ACTIVITYPUB ITSELF evidence.

How is it possible for us to believe anything that these people are saying about TBS as a project when their own words about other users have turned out to be patently false and incorrect? How can we trust the two leaders of these instances to be the arbiters of fediblock when they cannot show themselves to be arbiters of truth?

I have made my point.

Do with it what you will.

The USA Patriot Act was not drafted after 9/11. It was drafted before. 9/11 was an excuse by the US Government to capture civil liberties, wiretap phones, expand the military/surveillance state, and deny the vast majority of Americans their rights to free expression, association, and of course, freedom of religion (if you happen to be Muslim).

It has always been illegal to be a terrorist. Existing laws would have been perfectly fine in going after the perpetrators of 9/11.

But no politician has ever said that we should curtail the power of the surveillance state, have they?
