Indeed our lives are not a trudge -- I enjoy a hike through the wilderness! But perhaps others do not, and see it as tiring. For me, the step by step process -- which indeed includes our decisions, our experiences -- is an adventure. You never know what the next bend in the road will show, how it will give a different perspective on the landscape.
And at the end of the day, you are someplace different, and you yourself are different, and that, as you observe, is uplifting.
I totally agree with you about the rampage of the planet. I, however, would put the blame more in the hands of corporations that are out to make money off of every resource they can grab and abuse.
I find that people, real people, who walk on the earth -- whether in their backyard or in places of beauty like Zion -- experience an appreciation for nature that leads many of them to desire to live more simply, and not consume all of the garbage that corporations produce, and push.
You are welcome. May you find something today, see something, hear something, that causes you to pause in a moment of joy.
There's always something, every single day, somewhere, and the challenge for us is to slow down to see it. In your 70 years and your life of adventure, you've no doubt seen and experienced that. I know I have.
May you, and I, and all of us, continue to do so.
