Burchett says he backed his TN constituents by firing McCarthy over failure to tackle the $30-T debt

tackling the debt means higher taxes and/or lower Social Security and Medicare

does he think TN constituents want that?

is he ready to vote for that?

something to pray about

the core problem is that the Republican Party's current formula is stoking anger among Americans who can't reconcile themselves with the reality of the modern world

yelling at clouds, not problem-solving

but governance of the world's leading nation can't avoid reality
if "American politics" were broken, we'd have seen things like this happen when Democrats controlled the House

but we didn't

what's broken, very specifically, is the Republican Party
the contrast between the parties in capacity to govern 21st century America has never been clearer
the most important issue in American politics is the threat our democracy now faces

I talked to President Biden about it

President Biden on his old Senate colleague Joe Lieberman working with No Labels to explore a potential third-party candidacy in 2024:

"it's going to help the other guy. And he knows."

President Biden wants voters to set aside partisanship for protecting democracy in 2024.

I asked him which partisan priorities he'll set aside:

"other than protecting the Constitution, what is it MAGA Republicans think is extreme about what I'm doing?"

"Romney flays the cowardice of his Republican colleagues, who routinely place political self-interest over honesty and duty. He reveals that shortly before Jan 6, he texted McConnell warning of violent mobs descending on the city but received no response." https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2023/09/mitt-romney-and-the-doomed-nobility-of-republican-moderation.html
"After the attack, several Republicans admitted they were afraid voting to impeach Trump would expose them to violent reprisals from his supporters.

"The threat from the extremist right did not end on Jan 6; it had more effect after, swaying the votes of terrified legislators."
