"Niche programmers" sounds a bit ad hominem.
Not sure what you mean by changing the fundamental nature of Bitcoin; adding opcodes uses a foundational principle of the protocol to extend its functionality.
Normal users can't be expected to understand the intricacies of protocol development; if that was a requirement then the protocol would have ossified long ago.
Since changing my zap address several weeks ago, I've noticed an odd quirk.
Some folks are still zapping my old address, presumably because they are using a relay that didn't didn't receive my profile updated event.
Rather annoying!
Before the 1990s most computing was done on mainframes that were expensive and difficult to access, because that was simply the state of hardware.
Then we had a couple decades of software running on personal computing hardware because networking hardware sucked.
Now with broadband we're back to running software on servers because cloud computing has made it cost efficient, and software companies can have far greater control over the user experience.
The looming question in my mind: can we swing the pendulum back in the other direction by focusing on development of p2p apps and infrastructure?
So I've been trying ZYN (3 mg) for the past week and I don't get it.
It is vastly superior to dip, which I tried 20 years ago.
But all I really get is some tingling in my mouth and a light headed feeling. Doesn't feel like a nootropic that enhances my concentration or productivity.
Am I doing it wrong? 😐
Not a hashing board in your physical possession, not your hashrate!
GAWsome! (OG cloud mining scam reference)

I recall calling out Garza and getting a ton of flack from folks who were getting scammed claiming it was legit. Same response as when I called out bitconnect.

I turned off my testnet griefing script 2 weeks ago.
Yet I still have folks yelling at me daily that they can't use testnet because it's broken.
Imagine that.
It's called griefing for a reason 😏
The griefing is currently paused now that I have everyone's attention.
Gird your loins, because the pause is only temporary!
Roger Ver is a case study in why you shouldn't get cute and try to fuck the government behind its back. You should fuck the government directly in its face, by the book.
This is why I give away a lot of bitcoin during bull markets to registered charities. I pay for appraisals, fill out a bunch of bullshit paperwork, and explain to the IRS why they won't be benefitting from my gains.
I've done that though Fidelity and still had to go through the same process regarding appraisals and tax paperwork. Now I have additional headache of having to direct the fund to cut checks on an annual basis.
I'd recommend buying a new in box bootloader unlocked Pixel 6 or newer. If you're not buying directly from Google it can be a crap shoot as to if it's truly bootloader unlocked or just carrier unlocked. Load the OS yourself, it's pretty easy to do now with Graphene's WebUSB installer.
Could work, just make sure there's a good return policy in case it turns out the bootloader is locked.
Can never really be sure whether or not hardware has been tampered with.
Had anyone dug into the massive surge in nostr account activity over the past 2 weeks?
Looks like 90% of note volume is coming from a new cohort of accounts with zero trust ranking (no connection to the core growth of active users.)
Someone attempting a spam / Sybil attack?
While we have strong disagreements, I must admit I respect Roger Ver's conviction in sticking to his ideals.
For example, we now know he sold a ton of his Bitcoin around the time of the fork, presumably to buy Bitcoin Cash.

However, it seems that the same conviction that led to him becoming Bitcoin Jesus and a billionaire has also led to a lot of suffering these past years.
I hope Roger finds peace.
I made the most progress with SRI but get a kernel panic after about 60 seconds after pointing a bunch of hashrate at it.
Might come back to it when I have more free time.
Nope, OP is an idiot.
Nothing I've done has required any sort of development permissions. I only modified my local node, which anyone can do without asking permission from anyone else.
I published my original reasoning a MONTH ago on the development mailing list. It's not my problem if people who are using testnet don't read the mailing list. They really should!
All I'm doing is demonstrating the weakness that my original post suggested fixing. Simple as that.
Sometimes folks don't believe an email, they need to feel the effects.
The funny thing about the testnet shenanigans is that the scammers who are running exchanges and trading testnet tokens for real value noticed almost immediately a week ago.
Whereas the actual Bitcoin developers doing legitimate testing seem to be noticing now.
Looking forward to getting more support for testnet4!
Nah. My tickling of testnet is a trivial exploit. It costs practically nothing and can be executed with less than 20 lines of code.
Folks are free to view me as "the bad guy" but I'm merely the first to lean into this weakness. A weakness which I have suggested fixing on the development mailing list!
I'm championing a cause, and sometimes you have to do more than send an email to get people's attention.

Actually, TBTC not having any value is one of testnet's foundational principles. Ensuring that property remains is not petty from where I stand.
Additionally, I've taught technical classes about building Bitcoin applications and I always make a point that testnet is a weird place. Stress tests should be expected; if you can handle them then you can be confident running on mainnet.
The blockchain is still moving forward and storing new data. If developers' apps are breaking then they should consider this a free stress test. I'm not even charging for my services!

Basically I'm getting the test network to produce a ton of blocks, which is causing some apps to choke while trying to keep up with the tip of the blockchain.
We're 1 week into Phase 2. No set plans, but probably at least a few more weeks.
FYI this is trivial to pull off, so I wouldn't assume it won't happen again unless we switch to testnet4 and fix the timewarp edge case.
"Shitcoiner" is as meaningless now as "maximalist" but it was probably inevitable. People's views become more complex / nuanced and puritans continue to seek to differentiate themselves.
