If everyone uses the for profit app, I can't imagine that organization resisting the incentives & threats they'll be subjected to towards capture as the userbase reaches a critical mass.

An apt tribute. Typically, comedians' only goal is making the audience laugh. This guy very often delivered a style of comedy that seems almost deliberately meant to elicit confusion rather than raw laughter. Doesn't at all mean the jokes aren't funny, IMO in his case, many jokes were so well engineered, the audience would need time to process them before visceral laughter emerged, and if everyone else is silently confused too, let's be honest, it makes it harder to laugh. But again, doesn't imply the jokes aren't good!

Having a 3rd party outside of your relationship to your employer/customers take all your income is fucking insane, but everyone does it because no one was taught how money works or what it is.
Anyway we see a similar dynamic with streaming subscription services too. Seasons of TV shows got shorter, which cuts production costs, but thanks to the sub model, they also air in multiple split up parts over a year, which boosts subscription revenue. The result is higher profits for netflix et al, but also (generally) shittier shows.
