If you are a programmer, coder, or developer, this note is for you!

I want to learn a new skill...
â–² â–¼
👠 It's all about language, not a specific language, but the "language of language" for lack of a better phrase. I sometimes tell folks I'm a translator instead of a developer. 😅
â–² â–¼
You can put the blocks dir for bitcoin core on your spinning disks with minimal performance impact.
â–² â–¼
Could also be the power management settings for that device. You want spinning disks to always be spun up, even if they're idle.
â–² â–¼
As I've gotten a little older, I've started to learn that generational wealth has much less to do...
â–² â–¼
If your values are what made you wealthy, passing those values on for more than 3 generations is critically important, but rarely successful.

2 things most social humans do every day are communicate & cooperate.

It's pitiful how poorly we teach language & money to young humans.

We can do so much better. 😔

You could have went FOSS from the start. Hell you could have gone monthly if that was an option. You made a bad purchase, reneged on the transaction agreement, and...it's all their fault?

Man up. Pay up. Move on.
â–² â–¼
To live is to risk it all
â–² â–¼
Ehh... some folks want to experience as much time as possible, and taking risks is (for lack of a better word) a major risk at achieving that goal.

You may not call that living, but they're still more likely to (for lack of a better word) outlive you, nevertheless.

I was thinking about how normies learn about and get sucked into adopting new technologies.

â–² â–¼
For profit. So to answer your question at the end, yes it will ironically be bad in the end if it works well enough.

If everyone uses the for profit app, I can't imagine that organization resisting the incentives & threats they'll be subjected to towards capture as the userbase reaches a critical mass.

The app would ideally use UX patterns to push people off to more sovereign options... but if they're profit driven, that's a nonstarter. Even if they're altruistic, with enough threats, it's a nonstarter. Legacy social media incentives.

I'd love to see it, just seems very unlikely to successfully do what we're looking for here.
â–² â–¼
It's much easier to orange or purple pill someone, after they've taken the red pill 😠
â–² â–¼
That's the point. You can choose to indulge the comfortable illusion of a thing, or you can choose to see the reality of the thing. Even if it's ugly & difficult, it's still closer to the truth than the illusion, and that's precisely the choice and the hero's journey Neo takes in The Matrix.

If true, NSA is more likely for bitcoin at least. CIA just directs NSA to use their tech tools. The NSA is where the black-box magic happens these days.

From a UX perspective, reliable notifications are a must. From a tech side, I think Keychat & 0xchat are going in good directions, just wary of unaudited secure messengers at this point. I use them, but for sensitive messages, sticking with SimpleX for now.

More about technology & "what do we do with the idle slaves everywhere." The social atructure was already set, and now 150 years later, America is back to the pre-civil-war 2 class system, enhanced by fiat monopoly credits that the workers use to trade among themselves, and unburdened by the racial constraints of the working class in the past. Slavery with extra steps.
â–² â–¼
i dont think the whole story of why the establishment is going so hard after the internet archive...
â–² â–¼
 "...Unburdened by what has been"

The Internet Archive

The establishments inability to mea culpa (or better yet, avoid embarassment in the first place) has accumulated a critical mass of past mistakes. They'll take any opportunity to erase that past at this point.

Erasing the past imposes a cost in physics; the physical default is for the past to feed into the present for free. They don't think that cost applies in their online virtual bubble, or at best they underestimate it. It's one of a few major fallacies they professionally practice to the detriment of a thriving civilization.

I hope the internet archive finds a way to persist!

Most people think Norm McDonald was a comedian.

Oh how wrong they are. So so very wrong!

Well ...
â–² â–¼
An apt tribute. Typically, comedians' only goal is making the audience laugh. This guy very often delivered a style of comedy that seems almost deliberately meant to elicit confusion rather than raw laughter. Doesn't at all mean the jokes aren't funny, IMO in his case, many jokes were so well engineered, the audience would need time to process them before visceral laughter emerged, and if everyone else is silently confused too, let's be honest, it makes it harder to laugh. But again, doesn't imply the jokes aren't good!

We need to stop using the word "savings" when we really mean "money we lend to bankers for interest."

We need to stop using the word "wages" or "paycheck" when we really mean "monopoly credits I tell my employer to lend straight to a bank for interest"

Having a 3rd party outside of your relationship to your employer/customers take all your income is fucking insane, but everyone does it because no one was taught how money works or what it is.

Anyway we see a similar dynamic with streaming subscription services too. Seasons of TV shows got shorter, which cuts production costs, but thanks to the sub model, they also air in multiple split up parts over a year, which boosts subscription revenue. The result is higher profits for netflix et al, but also (generally) shittier shows.
