Again I'm reminded of Paul Graham's wisdom (e.g. What You Can't Say):
"Argue with idiots, and you become an idiot"

And the great #Cypherpunk Tim May:

"The State will of course try to slow or halt the spread of this technology, citing national security concerns, use of the technology by drug dealers and tax evaders, and fears of societal disintegration."

#Privacy #Encryption #FOSS & #Decentralization are essential no matter what boogeyman idiots conjure up.

The joys of patents, intellectual property, and copyrights; all those legal delusions that corporations use to pretend they own something that is not scarce (ideas).

Imagine all the innovation that could happen in a world free of this bullshit!

"...individuals are unwittingly incorporated into a state of total surveillance by simply showing their face in public... The individual needs a way to disengage with those systems at will."

While not perfect, there are several options for #online #Privacy
But in real life there is a gap between #Surveillance and privacy #Tech

To bridge this gap, I hope to see more initiatives like these.

How much #OpenSource there is in these "open-source language models" is questionable, especially with #Nvidia involved.

Still it's good to have local offline options.

Looking forward to run Chat with RTX on #Linux

Online #Privacy tools organized and tagged.

“Neighborhoods in the future may include WaterCubes for each household and virtually eliminate the need for municipal water systems.”

A #FreeMarket would have eliminated "the need" for municipal water systems eons ago, coercive regulation and lack of imagination have kept cities locked into stupid centralization. Hopefully this kind of #Tech will lead to much needed #Decentralization in this area.

The (poor) excuse for KYC/AML is to combat victimless crimes like money laundering and real crime like terrorism. But in reality it is just a tool for the worst criminals (aka politicians) to invade your #privacy , keep your #bitcoin under control and continue stealing through taxation.

"Few understand that #procrastination is our natural defense, letting things take care of themselves and exercise their #antifragility... procrastination can be a way for us to filter better, to resist the consequences of jumping on information"

Despite Taleb's praise of procrastination, I've had enough and decided to finally get my site done. It should be deployed in the next few days with all previous articles, but for now the domain is renan-node.net
Still trying to decide if I should go with #github / #gitlab pages, or get a proper #vps

Suggestions would be appreciated.
Here is a good read to counter pessimism about #Tech and the future in general.

I might write a proper post about it later, for now I can say this "manifesto" gets almost everything right. Should have mentioned a bit about #FOSS and the principles behind what #Satoshi did to give more weight to #Decentralization.

As far as labels go, a #Techo-Optimist is not so bad.

 What You Can't Say
http://paulgraham.com/say.html

"Suppose in the future there is a movement to ban the color yellow. Proposals to paint anything yellow are denounced as "yellowist", as is anyone suspected of liking the color.
People who like orange are tolerated but viewed with suspicion. Suppose you realize there is nothing wrong with yellow.
If you go around saying this, you'll be denounced as a yellowist too, and you'll find yourself having a lot of arguments with anti-yellowists.
If your aim in life is to rehabilitate the color yellow, that may be what you want.
But if you're mostly interested in other questions, being labelled as a yellowist will just be a distraction.
Argue with idiots, and you become an idiot."

Paul Graham wrote this excellent essay in 2004, it is as current as ever and essential for #Fediverse #FOSS #Decentralized #Tech.

"...And what, exactly, is "hate speech?" This sounds like a phrase out of 1984."

"...Always be questioning. That's the only defense. What can't you say? And why?"
I'm gonna add The Most Human Human, Art & Fear, and Changing Minds to my never ending "to read" #book list

"A flag for a vessel is like a passport for a person"

This is not a perfect solution, but it's acceptable as a transitional step to a better model in the future.

Use any bluetooth-only watch compatible with gadget bridge
 Gadgetbridge looks great, thanks!
I'm looking for a #Privacy respecting #SleepTracker or a #FOSS hack on #WearableTech like the Whoop strap or Garmin watch.

It's so absurd that user's data is always out of their control, and they don't even care.

Any reply with advice would be much appreciated.

This article seems incomplete because there no mention of #OpenSource #Hardware, but it's a good read nonetheless.

"It’s a simple fact of life that when the government is given a power—whether that be to regulate, surveil, tax, or plunder—it is nigh impossible to wrestle it away from the state outside somehow disposing of the state entirely"

Excellent article for David Sinclair to keep in mind when thinking about #privacy in #Longevity #tech
"We already trade a tremendous amount of privacy for technological services"

 Inspiring video!

Reminds me of Tesla:

"I do not think there is any thrill that can go through the human heart like that felt by the inventor as he sees some creation of the brain unfolding to success... such emotions make a man forget food, sleep, friends, love, everything."

This goes to show that politicians corrupt everything they touch and regulation is created only to serve their interests, in this case under the guise of child sexual abuse.

#Privacy and #Encryption should be based on the #Cypherpunks principles of anonymity in #Permissionless systems where gatekeepers are powerless by design.

There is no way to #FixTheCRA, it should be bypassed by proper #FOSS software.
