“ “What they are is strands of silk that spiderlings, baby spiders, use to disperse,” Fred Larabee, an assistant professor of biology at San Jose State University, told the paper, comparing the creepy act of nature to dandelion petals fluttering in the wind.
“To get away from where they’re originally born, they spin these silk strands and they get caught by the wind, which pulls the spiders to a new place to live, to new habitats….”

“ American life expectancy peaked at 78.9 years in 2014, the same year the Affordable Care Act – also known as ‘Obamacare’ – fully went into effect. It has been declining ever since. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as of 2021 it was at 76.4 years.”

“One of humankind's most intimate blood-sucking roommates, the bed bug, is notoriously resistant to the pesticides used against it. Now researchers have pinpointed the genes responsible for this resistance. The finding highlights how ineffective our current chemical arsenal has become, and could help researchers design pesticides better able to destroy the pests.”

@c45edd90@d7af9dea@41995660 The article is correct. The Lyme parasite is not transmitted immediately. What they don’t mention is it is the small, seed like immature ticks that transmit Lyme. The bite is not painful and they can attach where you can’t see them easily. The drug is probably like ivermectin, toxic to invertebrates like worms, ticks and insects but not to mammals.
Invertebrates don’t have a blood brain barrier.

Long but interesting analysis of the Ukraine war by John Mearsheimer — “one of America’s foremost international relations scholars — has published a powerful and damning indictment of Ukraine’s Western-driven counteroffensive, explaining why there was virtually no chance it could have succeeded.”
