agreed that this is useful, but unfortunately it's not super easy for us to implement. we are considering it in a future release. thanks for the suggestion and keep them coming sir.

I agree with this take.
Our current user count calculation is very permissive: we count all public keys that have user metadata set. This can be gamed (anyone can create bot key pairs and set metadata for them), so our nostr user numbers are overstated.
The alternative is to use a web of trust algorithm to identify real users based on follow connections. The downside of this technique is that we would be underestimating the number of real users because most new users won’t have any real followers initially.
Given that other networks generously include bots when stating their user numbers, our approach is probably a decent apples-to-apples comparison. In fact, as you point out, nostr seems to have higher engagement per number of followers.
Having said all that, I am not happy with the fact that our numbers don’t reflect real users. We will work on improving these techniques, but I definitely don’t want to err on the side of excluding real users from the count.
Yes, that's the web of trust approach I mentioned above. We use it in some parts of Primal (e. g. to eliminate bots from trending feeds). Using it for user counts would understate the real user numbers tho.
I hope we will see a vibrant market of both paid and free algos. Some algos might be very specialized, and it might make sense for some users to pay for them.

Yes, we are looking at adding the ability to deactivate your primal wallet in the settings. Still thinking through the details of how that would work.
App chrome is the top & bottom navigation bar that now hide more gracefully when you scroll through the feeds.
Not anymore. We had the option while we were still tinkering with layouts, but now we are leaning into the wide layout.
I must say it took me a little while to get used to it, but now I feel it's superior to the narrow layout.
Collecting KYC info is a legal requirement for offering a custodial wallet service. Agreed, we need to do a better job communicating this; it's on our to-do list for the next release.
The Privacy Policy and Terms of Service links should work from within the app. Maybe it's an issue with smaller screen on iPhone SE. In any case, here are the links:

Thanks for caring enough to listen and take the time to post follow-up questions.
At my previous startup (Datazen) we developed a general purpose reporting product. Our customers were businesses of all sizes who wanted something better than Excel to visualize their data on mobile devices. The company was acquired by Microsoft in 2015 and our product was integrated into SQL Server Reporting Services.
How is any of this problematic in the context of Nostr/Primal?
I don’t mind the scrutiny, I think it’s a feature of the nostr ecosystem, but please don’t base it on hypotheticals. Saying that we *could* change our terms in the future and *could* do something nefarious is not helpful.
As I said before, we plan to monetize by offering a premium tier to our users. We will do that when we are ready. There is a lot to build and we need to make sure that we can provide enough value for people to actually pay for the premium tier.
So your criticism is that our Privacy Policy is subject to change? That is literally the case with every privacy policy in the world. As the project evolves and features are added, the privacy policy must be updated accordingly. For example, we had to update our Privacy Policy when we added the wallet feature.
*If* we change our policy in the future to something that you think would be harmful to our users or the network, *then* by all means raise the flag and criticize us. Criticizing now based on the assumption that we *might* do it in the future is a bit premature.
Happy to respond to constructive criticism, but if the conversation degrades to name calling then yes, I’ll ignore you. Nothing personal I just don’t have time for that.
Investigating this now. Thanks for confirming that the payment was received @kineticfinance. It looks like the zap receipt was not published by @Wallet of Satoshi.
Primal Android users: we have a new build ready for you (0.99.4). Here’s what’s in it:
- Visual polish: we fine-tuned the feed rendering as well as the various app chrome elements
- Activating the image viewer is now smoother
- The sporadic user search crash should be fixed
We did these improvements for the upcoming 1.0 release, but decided to make them available right away.
Enjoy!
